16/11/2012 – Bolderdashian Dolphins

16/11/201225

Over 120 Bold & Beautiful swimmers

brighten up another overcast day 🙂

With plenty of air piano being played as we get in…

It was sooo exciting at the point !!  Everyone was actually ‘right there’ together !!  Aaahhh, gave me a nice warm fuzzy feeling 😉

Seems I wasn’t the only one with a warm, fuzzy feeling this morning.  There’s always plenty of lovin’ to share around.

With lots of things for us to be proud of each other for !

Sam’s first wetsuit-less swim of the season 🙂

Anne’s first arrival at Shelly in time to be greeted by the group 🙂

and Liz swam both ways without flippers for the first time, after 4 years of swimming with them 🙂

Gosh, that’s right.  B&B is nearly 4 !!  We’ll have to have a big B&B birthday celebration swim on 27th December.  We might have even smashed 4000 swimmers by then too 🙂

Simon says: “The Bolderdash express left South Steyne point at 5.57am in pursuit the dolphin pod we could see off Nth Steyne. Alas the group of 6 who swam off shore missed seeing the pod despite slightly clearer though cooler conditions. The return bus-ride was slightly longer due to the southerly wind in our faces.  The express leaves same time tomorrow, see you there.”

Shaun and Nanette started the Bolderdash ‘on time’ 😉 and were rewarded with a
large pod of dolphins swimming under them not once, but FIVE times !!!
🙂

Simon’s Bolderdash express photos:

14 swimmers also enjoyed an early lap of Shelly.  3 a double after the regular swim and another 3 ventured up to Queenscliff after the regular swim before they then did a double, totally 6km for the morning.

Emily W googled Sunfish for us and the great news is they eat jellyfish.  Hope we see lots more of you Mr or Mrs Sunfish !  Sadly we didn’t see you this morning, but we did see a Numbfish 🙂

Nothing to do with the Sun or numb fish but Emily W is pregnant !!  Congratulations Emily and David 🙂  Alyson M, you and Emily must meet, you are both due around the same time, how exciting.  Another influx of B&B babies 🙂

In AOB…

Swam with Dolphins this morning. Close encounters 5 times. They definitely had a play with me. I swam the boulderdash 5.45am lone start (met up with Nanette at Queensie) and they came around and played some tricks. Some things they did were
    – Two juveniles darted beneath me as if they were playing chicken.
-The whole pod were next to me in one tight group as if they were making the shape of a whale.
-7 cruised along the bottom pretending to be sharks.
-The last and best one cruised past in front of me 1m away motionless but sleek. Today was one special day and – They are wonderful creatures.
One little secret Ill share with you – to get them closer – The use of the dolphin language which I picked up watching flipper in the 60’s. i made a kkkkkcccckkkaaaa sound under water which I’m sure they understood and were amused by.
I have a fair idea what they were thinking of me.
I vote for a new dolphin badge with two pink dots.

Wow – that would have been great to experience although a little unnerving (well the bit about you ‘singing’ to them at any rate!

The water was awesome this morning – so peaceful and calm!! I reckon tomorrow will be the same eh Michael??
The dolphin experience sounded great Shaun!! I thought I heard dolphins squealing when I was on my way to Shelly but it was just Mari’s kids!! damn
We are due for a dolphin play as it’s been about a year since they played with us!!

How exciting, we’ve got our very own Dolphin Whisperer! Can Aly and i swim the Bolderdash with you soon Shaun?
Thank you so much to Jules Isbill. Not only does she keep our B&B Group going so efficiently she can also be counted on to loan out underwear and other forgotten items! She brought me down an assortment of bras to choose from when I forgot mine yesterday and had to dash off to work after breaky!
If any of you want to challenge yourself further, think about registering for the Huskisson Triathlon event next February. There are a lot of B&Bers doing it and there will be a great atmosphere. I think regos are almost closing for the Long Course. If I can do it, anyone can! (Although I haven’t yet of course…)

    What a great story Shaun!
I too thought I heard dolphins screaming this morning. I guess that’s appropriate if they had to listen to your singing.
No seriously, I haven’t heard you sing, you may be like Michael Jackson, then I’d be screaming too.

Tomorrow will be even flatter than today if that’s possible, with virtually no wind and SUNSHINE. So it should be great.
A great morning to go into Freshie I would say.

Well done Mum (Anne) for getting to Shelley beach with the group after only just getting into it. You will be doing the long swims before you know it! Hi to rest of the guys: Jules, Michael, Rosie, Damo, Dave and Em etc etc. Wish we we could pop over there for a quick morning swim. Think of us as the days get colder and shorter here in lovely UK. Dave, Becky and Xavier
