16/02/13 – Rainbow Reward

16/02/201317

As with life projects in general, sometimes the day starts with doom and gloom. This morning, there was rain and dark, grey skies, but 210 Bold & Beautiful swimmers were undeterred. We had 13 brand spanking new swimmers, three who did the Bolderdash and as many as 26 doing the 6km option.

The now familiar seaweed parade. The next two photos by Stephen.

A small contingent of swimmers were NOT HAPPY JAN. “Yeah, I’ve written a letter of complaint to the State Government, and I also contacted the hard hitting investigative journos from the Manly Daily regarding this seaweed situation”, Vicky was overheard muttering under her breath. “It sure stinks”, added Cynthia with astounding clarity and observational skills.

The BR Brother, aka BRendon, BRenton and BRuce, all declared to be happy Jan.

As were these swimmers.

“Who wants to do the 6km swim now?” Only a few put their hands up, indicating they were keen. The rest of us only did it to get the little sew-on badge.

Half way to Queenscliff, Bruce found a rainbow.

Russel only managed to reach turn-around point at Freshwater pool because he was surrounded by gorgeous women who kept him well motivated.

The pot of GOLD touched a nerve or at least the tops of people’s heads.

Miraculously, the rainbow followed us back to Queenscliff.

As with life projects in general, there will be light at the end (of the swim).

Now to some more of Sharon’s undercover photos… Hmmm. Little Sarah Abbott, aka LSA, aka the Triad Queen… You are SO sprung this time. Or maybe there’s a perfectly reasonable explanation to why cash is changing hands in this very underhanded fashion.

Let’s just hope there isn’t any cheating happening with the Pacific Challenge points. LSA you do such a wonderful job of putting in the spread sheet data 🙂

Thanks for the blog pics: gorgeous. How wonderful was this morning? I arrived at Shelly in the rain, and returned to Manly under a rainbow. Paradise!

Thank you John Bond for organising the 6km. Fantastic swim, lovely clear and calm conditions. Unfortunately I didn’t tick my name off on the 6km sheet. Could someone rectify this please? Cheers

Looked so nice today, Glassy & overcast. I skidded off my bike on the slippery road to manly and couldn’t join the 6km swim.
    Hopefully next week!

u know the rules no tick – no swim!
To make the change I will need a signed affidavit notified by a JP.
Verification that you swum by at least five witnesses
and a hot chocolate with 2 marshmallows

Well done to all swimmers who completed the 6k this morning, especially the first timers.
A beautiful swim with calm ,clean water, some light rain and rainbows followed by clear sky and sunshine all the way back from Freshie. Also a great group to swim with. I think we all had an enjoyable time.
Now the next challenge swim is the 10k next Saturday. I’ve put in a request for good swimming coonditions.

    Great blog, Girls Saturday!
Guess the Hairy Knee under the table as we were caught in the act!
In the last pic, we were trying to decide whether a particularly dodgy swimmer had paid up or not!!
Congrats to all 1st time 6Kers:-))

About the seaweed; I heard from someone with inside knowledge that Manly Council was revving up their tractor to clear the weed, but the tractor broke down! A replacement was hired – it broke down too. Apparently there are discussions going on with the neighbouring Warringah Council to see if they will play nice and loan one of their tractors. . . as long as Manly doesn’t break it that is 🙂

The beautiful aspect of swimming in the ocean regularly – as opposed to a pool – is that you get to experience it in all it’s moods – the collection of seaweed is part of the natural cycle on the coastline – it comes and goes – as does the smell – part of the life and death cycle – I for one enjoy the experience

My body tells me I did the 6km yesterday and I ticked the blue folder but there appears to be no evidence of me on the list….who do I talk to ? Anyone? BTW it was fab conditions followed by a great patrol.
