Top tip to other bloggers: don’t do the blog on someone else’s computer – I feel as stressed out as E-Laine! 😀
Anyway so basically nothing is in order, the photos are not ‘enhanced’ or have any of my usual additions! 😀
However it doesn’t matter because the swim is the reason we were there today…. this is just a photo-diary to show all those who couldn’t make it and a reminder to those who did!
And it was a GREAT morning, the water was LOVELY……

Helicoptor hovering over us!!

Michael you need some new budgies! just saying….

Shelly shots….

Porkup…Porkypine…proorkupin — bl**dy hell,..it’s a big spikey puffy fish…

Jelly shots…OK, SO just below is MY photo of this amazing jelly….

AND then Stephen comes along and shows off with his ‘special’ camera and does some fakery to make it look better! BAH!
More Stephen ‘fake’ shots! 😀

OH YEAH! Jules Mackin’s Birthday today!! She looks amazing for 55! Bold and Beautiful makes you look younger!

I was sent this in from Stephen which just said “Alex rescue” – now not sure if this is real or not? BUT as I took off straight after the swim I am not sure what happened?? Or is this one of Alex’s ‘moves’??

Very romantic move from Alex, she was heard to say Yes Yes Yes. Quick mover – I think she was a first timer!

Lend Us Some Muscle
Kaija Wall is a Manly LSC member and Old & Bold who trains before us most mornings, Her
15 year old son Jai suffers from Friedreich’s Ataxia, a disease that causes progressive damage to his nervous system and for which there’s sadly no cure. Over time, this results in muscle weakness, diabetes and heart disease. In the face of this diagnosis, Jai is swimming the Cole Classic in February to raise money for further research into the disease. What a legend!
You don’t need to be strong to lend him some muscle. Just…
1. Upload a picture of you flexing your muscles like a bodybuilder to the Wall here http://www.facebook.com/LendUsSomeMuscle , and copy & paste this whole message and include it with your photo – we want to spread the word.
2. Lend Jai some of your financial muscle by donating at http://bit.ly/SUPPORTJAI – he’s trying to raise $10,000 for further research into Friedreich’s Ataxia and every little helps!
Here’s my photo from today, https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151230291637638.456114.543327637&type=1&l=78bd18a71d

Alex was trying the exact same move on me earlier.. managed to escape via halfway beach. Still shaking. Scary experience.
Lovely blog Lesbutt. As usual. And aren’t we all sick of Stephen’s photoshop’ed underwater photography by now? Seriously! Some of those colours dont even exist!! 🙂

Rainer, I’ve been asked if the pink jelly fish stings. I’m sure you’d find it far more attractive than Alex and those Lips need a workout on something soft again. Can you find it, kiss it and let us know if anything stings or enlarges as a result?

Hey Guys,
Does anyone know just how long the swim is from Manly to Shelly & back? If you don’t go wide of course…

Lesley, you make me laugh every time!! Seriously funny, you are, and I agree with you there MUST be some trickery in SC’s photos, as mine never look anything like his either.
Anna Alvsdotter

Hi Kazza,
it’s a 1.5km trip, so 2 x 750m. Approximately anyway, as we all know what a big difference the tide makes.

Lovely pics as usual, Stephen (but I still love you, Lesley). The pretty silver and yellow fishes are Eastern pomfret, Schuettea scalaripinnis, aka Ladderfins.

Hi all,
Alex, apart from making his usual moves on unsuspecting women on the beach, tells me that Saturday & Sunday is the date for the Junior National Nippers carnival & a massive Surf Carnival on all of Manly beach. This may affect the venue for the 6km swim. Normally we would go harbourside, but 20 knot southerlies are forecast on Saturday. I don’t recall if we also went harbourside with the 1.5km swim during the carnival last year (?).

There will be lots of rubber ducks zooming in and out from our usual entry / exit point as they set up for the carnival so probably best to meet in the usual spot, so you dont miss people, then enjoy the parade down Ashburner St for a lovely Harbour swim. (Alternative is stay in the ocean and do umpteen return trips between half way Shelly)

This is what Stephen Keable at the OzMus says about Stephen C’s jelly pics:
“Hi Jane,Great pics.
I am guessing that is the same species of jellyfish as the images you sent recently where you indicated the bell was up to 1m wide. It’s tricky but I think that is a specimen of the lions mane or snotty jellyfish Cyanea. It doesn’t seem like a lot of the images that you will see of this because I think all the long, dense, fine tentacles that you would usually notice have been broken off. Apparently this is not uncommon (see attached information). Once you rule out the tentacles the size is right (rules out most other jellies usually encountered) and the bell is also right for Cyanea. We have a few records in our collection from Watsons Bay and Botany Bay but not many really. If any of your swimmers are brave enough and can get a specimen in a bucket of seawater and to the museum I’d love one for the collection. I’ll need a bit of warning to organise a container and preservative though.
Be cautious when handling (even if the tentacles seem broken off) and warn your swimmers if you see any with tentacles. Apparently the sting can be severe and is possible from even broken or dried tentacles (when remoistened).
Cheers, Steve”.
I am at the OzMus every Thursday so can deliver specimens to Steve.

Alex "the Lion Fish"

Just to set the record straight. Like all cowardly & predatory animals I like to wait for the sick & wounded before I pounce. I usually move in from behind my prey and wrap my tentacles around them! They either swoon or head butt me and then kick me in the nads hence my reluctance to attack anything in good condition! You will on occasions see me eyeing up “prey” before, on-entry to water, after and pretty much any other time I see lycra!
On a serious note though. Lovely “older” lady, 1st timer, wore flippers, double quad cramp (OUCH!) out the back on the way in. I have had cramps like that and they bloody hurt.
I am more than happy to touch anyone up on request! Or cop a slap if not requested. You have been warned!

Alex I can’t believe you fell for the old “double quad cramp” trick! If i had know you were that gullible I would have tried it sooner!
And clearly Rainer-Lips you were pulling some similar stunt on poor Alex??

Hey Jane, thanks so much for passing on this information. Makes it even more interesting to swim across the bay.
Your lovely friend Steve might have forgotten though that Cabbage Tree Bay is a No Take Aquatic Reserve, which means we can’t bring him offerings of sacred snotty jellyfish, unfortunately. Nor may we remove from the bay any shells, seaweed, limpids, sharks, turtles, kingfish, stingrays or whales. Sand must be removed from cozzies at all times and placed back onto the beach exactly were you borrowed it from.
The only stuff we are allowed to take out of the Reserve are plastics and cramping lady swimmers, and Mr Prendergast is already in charge of the latter.

Lots of activity here today, good to see that everyone is tuned.
Before I even start and having an Armstrong moment I confess: I do use photoshop to enhance the quality of the photos.
Having said that and now feeling greatly relieved I can carry on and say that a series of photos have been edited (which means photoshoped)from yesterday’s and today’s swim and have been uploaded to the link as follows:
http://youtu.be/MCdFrGmA274
For the B&B mums squad, A or L, I have more photos I would be happy to share with you if you like. I couldn’t recognize who was on the photos today, so if you want just let me know and I will forward them to you.
Nice blog and comments today, funny mob these B&Bs…
Have a great evening everyone and see you tomorrow.
