15/10/2013 – What more could we ask for

15/10/201322

Well it is definitely a little harder to get out of bed these days with the sun now rising a later than it did two weeks ago.  It’s perfect for catching those sunrises as I don’t have to get out of bed as early.  Unfortunately for me there have been clouds every morning but on a positive note this gives me a little extra time to get the shots when the sun peaks over the clouds.

The beautiful Sea Nymphs of Fairy Bower at Sunrise this morning

John and LSA head out on their own to do the Bolderdash.  I am sure there will be more joining you soon Sarah.

The Sun was a nice warm welcome this morning with the cooler breeze around us and gave us just the warmth we needed.

The 6:30 swimmers head off.  The numbers seemed to have dropped with Daylight Savings kicking in. Kylie, where are you?  Oh, she is on her way now. Coming down the ramp fashionably late.  Think we will have to come up with a new nickname for Kylie who just makes it in time each swim.

Elaine off for her morning run before the swim.

Cuddles is at at again.  So much love to be shared at B & B (Nick & Annie)

Seriously guys, what so funny (Dr John & Annie)

Okay, so I had my swimmers on inside out. At least they are not on backwards.

Stephen and Lesley head on out.  It’s actually nicer in the water than out today. Beautiful and clear also.

Think this one is Izzy.

Izzy and Sara (is that right?) Some of us are happier than others to be out in the water.

Oh Happy Days!!!

A blue grouper hanging around at Manly Point

A little ray of Sunshine

There was loads of seaweed on the way into Shelly this morning.  More seaweed than fish or people.

Elaine & Mauicio at Shelly (not sure what secrets are being told by Lesley)

This one is for you Sparkles. A Green Grouper!!

I went venturing this morning at the point at Shelly and came across a Port Jackson.  I wish I could have stayed there longer but I managed to take some video to share with you.

I came across this school of fish.  It almost looks like I am in a pool it was so clear.

I always love seeing the bottom of the sand on the way back into Shelly. The way the water shapes the sand is beautiful.

Swim Safety

With the large numbers of swimmers we now have swimming with us, the risk of collision with other swimmers is increasing. We request that, where possible, you swim with the group, either at 6.30 am or 7 am. This will reduce the possibility of injury from a collision. One of our swimmers in the 7 am group recently suffered a substantial injury in a collision with another oncoming B & B swimmer. The injury required medical attention and a layoff from swimming of three weeks. Worst of all, the other swimmer did not stop to see if our swimmer was injured. If you must swim at other times, you should swim wide or close to the shore if possible to avoid other oncoming swimmers. Also be aware at all times of where the swimmers in the regular group are. Thank you for your co-operation.

Staying safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits.

Hey! I’ve just discovered a fish called a RUSTY CATSHARK!(Parascyllium ferrugineum). How about that, sweet Russell?

Oh do tell Jane! Is it a bottom dweller?

Yay great Jane, can you send it me for my blog on Thursday. Lovely blog Renae, love the ‘arty’ sun ray shot particularly! What a beautiful swim this morning, so clear. I followed a blue groper from Shelly to Halfway, magical! Saw a catfish, fiddler ray, sergeant baker, gropers, leatherjackets, diamond fish. It was superb!

Great blog Renae. Great sign off pic too. I love the colour of your flippers.

Love the variety in the blog and thanks for the b’dash pic!
The b’CRAWL was heavenly this morning as the sun came up and with the super calm, glassy water, seemed a lot easier than most shelly swims!
Always looking for very slow partners for this swim anyday while I’m around, so let me know if interested.
We have a b’crawl sheduled for 6.00 departure on Thurs and 6.10 on Friday. Anyone welcome – no pressure, lots of sight-seeing. Consider a wetsuit as one does get a lot colder!

Love your video of the PJ. By my calculation, you managed to hold your breath for more than 31 seconds … or did you lend your camera to Mauricio?

I have to confess I cheated Ian. It was very shallow so I stayed near the top and i could pop up little a turtle for a quick breath.

Hmmm, think there has been too much talk of my sign off pic so I might change it up for the next one on Saturday.

Wow, you saw loads. I went over to the point instead today but had to cut it short as I had an appt to get to. Maybe I can stay out a little longer on Thursday and venture around.

I would like to join but I am truly slow and not falsely modest. I could go on my own but can’t navigate etc. Will try for |Thursday or Friday. Is the change room open at 6.10 or does the council wait for 6.17am?

They are amazing Bill. I saw one last week. The sharks are still a favourite of mine. I love how they glide through the water so smoothly.

    Hi Guys
I have scored a place on the Column 8 Hunting of the Snark Cruise on the Harbour all day this Saturday (10am-3pm). There are still a few places if anyone is interested. $100 includes cruise, lunch and bar. CASH ONLY.
If interested, ring Pat Sheil on 0409 037 485 and tell him I told you about it, because he is expecting me to ring him direct but it is quicker this way.
Does any one know Ros’s email address? If so, would you forward this message to her?
Should be fab fun. Try and read “The Hunting of the Snark” (Lewis Carroll) before the cruise. Lots about it on the Net.

For all long distance swims, whether anyone is fast or slow, best to always buddy up for safety. I’d also suggest it’s best to make sure someone you’re used to swimming with (or a good friend!) joins for these longer ones.
Sorry, no idea about the change room times.

There were some whales off manly this afternoon, (a calf perhaps) so look out for them next time you swim, you might be lucky and have some nice company not too far off!
