15/09/13 How many Badges?!!!

15/09/201310

A busy swim this morning, maybe because 284 swimmers qualified for their ‘Cold and Beautiful 2013’ badge earlier this year and can’t wait to pick up their sew on badge or badges later this morning! Straight after our dip in the ocean!

But we did swim before the ceremony. Here’s the Resident Teddy Snatcher …taunting our youngest swimmers. Spotty Teddy hasn’t his wetsuit on, so won’t be going in today.

To qualify for a badge, swimmers had to clock up 20 swims over 7 different weeks in Winter. Congratulations to you all!

A further and more cosseted badge is the WWW or Winter Without Wetsuit badge, same rules but the swims have to be without a wetsuit on!

Jazzy and Laura, our youngest winter badge swimmers, pose with our eldest Wilf ….congrats to you all!

To add to all of this, 14 swimmers were sponsored over Winter to swim without their wetsuits! Well done for suffering and raising money for charity.

To celebrate today, Royal Far West treated us to a sausage sizzle. Yummie!

…and nice hot cups of tea!

The girls show off their badges, well done to you both (and Dad of course too!)

We enjoyed a small break in the sunshine, in the gardens.

Penelope from Royal Far West welcomed us and spoke of their latest project.

A word from our charity:

RFW have a team of 3 athletes who’ve volunteered to compete in the Port Macquarie Half Iron Man on 20th October to raise $10,000 to help bring 35 Indigenous children (kindy to year 4) from Green Hill School in Kempsey to RFW, as they’ve been identified as needing the specialised health services provided here, that they’re unable to receive in their local community.

The money you guys so generously raised for RFW at the B&B ball has been donated directly to this fantastic cause. So as you can see, something tangible, worthwhile and significant for these country kids will occur thanks to your generosity.

Thanks guys, once again B&B continues to make a positive difference to the lives of so many.

Back to the badges. This year, water temperatures have been kind to us and a whopping 143 qualified for their WWW badge! A warm congrats!

Well done to John Forster who swam every day, yes that’s EVERY day ….well done, he congratulated Shaun Denton (someone had to, to stop him making a fuss!) on coming second….

A great swim, followed by a great ceremony …hoping everyone enjoyed their day and Robbie looks forward to badge spotting tomorrow!

Staying safe
Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits.

I didn’t know I was even in line for a slept in through winter (SITW) badge for my 20 non-swims. Its true I have had more brekkie than damp hair but I want you to know that, unlike all you elite athletes, I did all my SITW solo !
Warm congratulations to everyone on a great effort, from your number one fan. xx

Sorry to miss another badge ceremony and congratulations to all!
Great blog of the atmosphere, Snorkles – at the rate Laura and Jazz are growing, they’ll be talling than me by the time I come back. Soon they’ll have no trouble snatching spotty Teddy back from Shaun.
And never mind about the 2nd place, Shaun. My $ are still on you to be leading the PC in due course!
