If you were one of the 70 swimmers out there today, why were you there? Was it a creative force or stimulated interest that stirred you from under your cosy doona? Was it one of these?
No glorious sunrise today as the blue grey clouds blended into the sea. However, the footprints in the sand show the sign of a whole lot of beach running has been going on!
Perhaps your inspiration to swim is the mediative aspect of the daily swim that brings serenity to your day. The rhythmic breathing and the absence of electronic stimulation are two aspects of swimming that are beneficial to your mental health.
And one should never underestimate the positive impact of interacting with all the other idiots who choose to plunge into 17.5 degree water in the middle of winter!!
I do think that a whole lot of bad words were being hurled around when this photo was being taken. . .
The water is cool, so wetsuits are the choice of the swimming fasionistias.
Lovely Cathie always seems to be totally serene and totally comfortable sans wettie.
Shelly is a quick turn-a-round these days – might have something to do with the motivation to get moving before one turns into an iceberg.
Have you noticed the increase in the number of gropers out and about? Well that is because it is their mating season.
The experts at Australian Museum commented on photos taken a few days ago where it was asked, ‘what are these fish doing?’
And here is the answer.
Courtship behaviour. You will see fish doing “interesting” things to get the action started. Plus that family spawns in winter, so it makes sense.
As for the Easter Blue Groper, still not much is known about spawning behaviour, but it is not unlikely they do something similar. Their larvae are most abundant in July so that would make them Autumn/winter spawners.
And if you need anymore motivation to move to the iLog, here is the ever diminishing check in list!!!
Now I wonder what the Rays are doing?
And this last photo will get me into serious trouble, but I just can’t help myself because these women are totally inspiring.
So it doesn’t matter what the source of your inspiration or motivation – as long as you have one. See you soon.

Week 8 of the Winter Badge season.
There are 14 weeks in the winter season. To qualify for the prized Cold & Bold Badge you simply need to swim 20 times within the season ensuring you have swum in a minimum of 7 different weeks. Log your swim ANYTIME of day using this really efficient and easy way to ensure your swim is recorded in the daily attendance and on the Pacific Challenge.. To get started, send an email to Ian Forster ugoboyo@gmail.com (This is not a link so please copy and paste into your email). He will check that your email address is activated on the attendance register then send you info on how to get started.
Staying safe
There may not be any waves just at the moment, but are you prepared for their return? Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

Knowing we’re only here for a few more days is a great inspiration to swim every day we can. The swimming conditions are so perfect too….

Love the blog Mary, well written once again. Inspiring in itself. I’m loving the cold water at the moment. I feel amazing afterwards. And it’s so clear.

Oh Elizabeth. Look a little closer and you will see Lesbubbles in that group photo. I do consider myself part of this delightfully idiotic practise
