Well, what a gloomy start to the day. There weren’t many people around when I got to Manly this morning, so I thought that it might bring the numbers down. I was so suprised when so many people started showing up. We definitely are a dedicated bunch.

You can always be guaranteed to be greated with a smile no matter whatis hapening with the weather, so when you are tucked in bed, make an effort to come down and join us. You won’t regret it.
Ian, Lucy, Andrew & guess who is being shy today? Maybe it has something to do with that photo from last week.

Look familiar anyone? Fabio maybe. Sorry, I couldn’t resist after the hard time you have given me the last week. I know you said it is was for bedroom use only, but it was so good, I thought how could I not share this with the other ladies. I would hate for them to miss out.

Another swimmer ready to head out in the dark this morning. It’s definitely getting darker for the Drinky Express Swim at 6:30.

Guess who photo bombed this shot of the 6:30 swimmers heading out this morning. The one and only Rob. He is getting so bold these days and starting to make a regular appearance.

More swimmers were turning up this morning trying to keep as dry as possible until they head out into the waters. We are a funny bunch like that considering we are all going to get wet when we jump into the water. Check out the size of this umbrella. It’s amazing.

Sharnie from Healthy Oceans Need Sharks was holding and underwater protest this morning against the culling of Sharks and asked for our help. We filled our swimmers full of our signs and off we went to point. Here are some of the shots from this morning. Thanks everyone for helping out.

We managed to spot a Fiddler Ray this morning. The patterns are stunning.

Toni spotted something out of the corner of her eye. The first sighting this season of a Cuttlefish. This one is especially for you Lesley.

And finally what we were all thinking off as we were heading back into Manly. Our reward. MMMMM Coffee. Nice and warm. The perfect way to finish a swim.

Have a great weekend all.
Renae

February is Heart Research Month, and we’re raising $1 for every kilometre we swim during the month.
We need to start kicking this along! The swimming is going ok, but a little more for the $$$$ would be great. Here’s the update…
https://redfebrelay.everydayhero.com/au/bold-beautiful-swim-squad-manly
B&B i-Log
Almost 50% of swimmers are now using the B&B i-Log. Log your swim ANYTIME of day using this really efficient and easy way to ensure your swim is recorded in the daily attendance and on the Pacific Challenge. To get started, send an email to Ian Forster: ugoboyo@gmail.com He will check that your email address is activated on the attendance register then send you info on how to get started.
Summer badge swims
Every Saturday during summer there will be a 6km swim – usual route is to Freshwater and back; then once a month there is a 10km swim – this is to South Curl Curl and back. However, the final route depends on conditions that day so it is a good idea to arrive a little early to have a briefing from the designated swim leader. Both swims kick off at 7am.
The proposed date for the next 10km swim is this Saturday, 15 February depending on conditions. (This date will depend on final confirmation of local surf carnivals so keep checking the blog for updates).
Bolderdash during summertime
This daily swim to Queenscliff and back DEPARTS the surf club at 5.50am. As these are generally intimate groups, please WAIT for everyone in the water before heading off. Do buddy up with someone – great to be with someone who has the same pace – that way everyone is ‘accounted for’ at Queenscliff.
Staying safe
Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

I saw old wives fish live! Why are these lovely fish named old wives? Of course it is because old wives are lovely. Well done to the swimmers who did 6 km and 10km today. I like the superman symbol on the attendance graph for these great swims.

Perfect conditions for a leisurely 6K (or 10K) this morning…. swimming over to Freshie was glassy calm with some very gentle rolling waves around Queensie. Around Freshie rocks was really clear – lots of fish and no surf at Freshie beach at all!!
Lots of water activity there- divers, boats of all kinds, paddle boards and lovely bumping into all the friendly B&Bers on our way back to Queensie…. such a contrast to the first Dec 6K and Dec 10K conditions:-)
I traded red roses for partnership on this 6K – so thanks to my Valentine xxx
…and very glad I was wearing my full wetsuit!

Good one Renae! 🙂
The name “old wife” refers to the sound it makes when caught, caused by it grinding its teeth.[1][6] Other vernacular names have included “bastard dory”, “zebra-fish” (also used for Girella zebra), and “double scalare”.

Just before the surf break at the end I saw about a 1m dusky whaler. Very cool.

Lies, damn lies and statistics. But us elders of the group have to show the way. Old age and treachery …………
In all honesty I have certainly averaged 300 metres…. each swim. I’ve been on the benches ( boom, tish ! ) for two weeks after pulling up lame when the Sand Flies at John Kelly’s Scouse House in Hawks Nest took a liking to Scottish blood. I would have thought the Single Malt anti-freeze would have put them off !
Size 12 feet, nicely turned ankle, shapely calves, knobbly knees and tireless thighs, ahem, all fine now.
But here I am on the Podium and I’d like to thank Jesus, Moses and Mohammed, my family (background music volume increasing) and a special mention to Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Michael Shermer (background music volume increasing)and all the gang at the Australian Skeptics (background music volume increasing)AND ALL AT B&B ! (get off, get off ….)
Hey ! What happened to Andy Warhol’s 15 minutes of fame ??? Is that all there is !?

if that pic of Storchy was his “Mr January”, can’t wait for the rest of the calendar:-)
Actually, his Valentine bomb pic yesterday was perfect for “Mr February” and I know Lainey and Ted will be glad to be included as extras:-)

Well done to all the 6k and 10k swimmers this morning especially any first timers. Conditions were good for the Manly to Freshwater course with the seas predictably becoming quite bumpy for the 10k from the point at Freshwater round to South Curly.
Thanks to Sam, Celine and Billy for meeting us at Curly with the much needed food and drink.
That was the last 10k for this summer with only next Saturday to complete the 6k series.

I also saw a dusky whaler at the point with the Drinks Express this morning. Nice to see as I haven’t seen one at all this summer until today. I remember seeing 18 in one field of vision on one swim last year, with a total count of 37 by the end!
