Oh, I love being warm this Winter in my wetsuit, but *sigh* it means I can’t take those fantastic underwater shots. This week I’ve seen a huge Wobbygong, a poorly catfish, Shelly the turtle venturing out and plenty of the old favourites.
Mind you, having a wetsuit on means I can dodge those nasty Jimbles! Lots of talk of stings this week and our blogs have given those pesky jellyfish enough AirPlay. The main reason my wetsuit gets a dusting off this time of year, is to keep WARM.
Â
Today’s blog is dedicated to being warm.
Â
Â
Firstly, make sure you wrap yourself in your really long scarf.
Check out what the water temperature is, written on the whiteboard every day. You can bet it will be warmer in than out.
Storchie!!!! You walking around like that is not helping me, and trying to think ‘warm’. Put some clothes on after your swim!
That’s better, a pair of thick trackies and warm patterned jumper “ahhhh warmth”
Best way to keep warm before a swim, grab a friend and a hug. “Aaahhhh warmth”
Warming up for a swim, by grabbing friends and posing…….”aaaaahhhh warmth” (as sponsored by the S5 team)
Oooooooh those first few waves, are the coolest.
Brrrrr, these two just make me feel cold, just looking at them! Come on guys, just get in.
Tory and Grant worked out that photo bombing at Shelly is a great way to keep warm.
How to photo bomb – part one.
Find a group that are having their photo taken.
How to photo bomb – part two.
Sidle up to unsuspecting victims, by shuffling in the sand, closer and closer into shot.
How to photo bomb – part three.
Â
At the appropriate time, jump, wave and shout out behind victims and make sure you are centred in the shot.
Â
Well done …..great photobomb. Management, do we have a ‘best photobomb’ badge?
Alternatively, you can call in the harem to lovingly keep you warm, hanging on to every word you say…..
….Jo, he did eventually leave Manly wine, however it was under duress and a reminder he had many chores at home he needed to get on with!
Staying safe
Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

Thanks Snorks. Captured the morning perfectly.
Love that fly-on-the-wall shot of me and my swim buddies having coffee at Manly Wine. I believe we were discussing ways to establish equal opportunities for women in education and employment.

Nice blog as always! I love reading it from afar when I can’t get there. By the way, if you really want to keep warm (in a REALLY COLD environment), come up to the Blue Mountains next weekend for the Winter Magic Festival. It’s always lots of fun. You are all looking fantastic – until next time, Love from Margot xx.
