13/08/2014 – Blogging from the Sidelines

13/08/20149

Just a quick blog this morning as I’ve got a class of Kindergarten to teach. Well done all the swimmers that have ventured out in the cold this week. You really are bold! I’ve had a bout of ‘Womens Flu’ (real flu) since Sunday. On the mend now but it’s a spectators blog today with some photos from Saturday preloaded.

Hannah’s exhuberance as she came out of the water, encaptured the essence of our swim today. She was thrilled to have done it for the first time without flippers and without a wetsuit. She’s only been swimming with us a couple of weeks, (after Lesbubbles picked her up in the Health food Shop 😉 She was glowing, full of life and energy, ready to start her Winter’s day in Manly! (After moving here from England.) Welcome Hannah!

You must try Booty Camp next.

Sylvia and family after their early swim.

Kylie’s last swim for a while as she goes to swim in Croatia and climb Mont Blanc.

Elaine K forgot her wetsuit today but took the plunge wettieless nonetheless. She helped present an inspiring talk by Ruth Hollows last night at Bluewater Cafe. We really must get behind the amazing Fred Hollows charity and get some teams together for Wild Women on Top’s Sydney Coastrek next year!

Lips spies me out of the corner of his eye and gets on the blog again!

Such a beautiful sky this morning…The water looked was apparently gorgeous too and had gone up to 16.5!

This one is from last Thursday. ‘Buck’ or Simon Buckingham on the left is seriously fast. Just recovering from an ankle injury so watch out ‘A Team’.

Saturday morning

Scotty and Dreamboat desperate to get in on the photo…

and they make it!

Look at the cute, cheeky faced Bishop sucking in his tummy lest he be called Tinky-Winky again!

I caught Ian McKnight not ‘going all the way’…

and Dolphin Whisperer having a ‘Splash n Dash’!

And out inspiring oldest swimmer…Mr Wilf Deck!

Drinks at Manly Skiff Club Sunday arvo from 2pm

A lot of our swimmers share the same star sign. a high percentage of bold Leos are in the group especially the Blog Tarts! Join us for a drink on Sunday 17th for a very informal drinks and catch up!

Winter Badge season – only 3 weeks to go.

There are 14 weeks in the winter season.  To qualify for the prized Cold & Bold Badge you simply need to swim 20 times within the season ensuring you have swum in aminimum of 7 different weeks.  So, attempting to do it all in the first few weeks does not count!!  Make sure you use the i-Log to register your without wetsuit for the WWW badge.  The badge ceremony is being held straight after the swim on 21 September at the Royal Far West.

B&B i-Log

Log your swim ANYTIME of day using the B&B i-Log.  This is the best and easiest way to ensure your swims are recorded in the daily attendance and on the Pacific Challenge. To get started, send an email to Ian Forster ugoboyo@gmail.com (This is not a link so please copy and paste into your email).   He will check that your email address is activated on the attendance register then send you info on how to set up your log in.

Staying safe

Are you prepared for the return of the surf? Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly!  While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits.  Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf.  To read, or even download, click here.

Had a close encounter with a big orange jelly near the Tardis. At first sight it looked like a soccer ball suspended by a rope from the Tardis until I realised I better keep some distance.
Get better soon Lainey, and thanks for the lovely blog.
