12/12/2018 – Dancing at Moonlight…Swimming at Sunlight :-)

12/12/20183

Thank you for the blog title David Champion. I’m a bit dusty after the B&B Christmas Party last night so needed some inspiration! Here’s a few of us partying away at Henry’s Bar, The Steyne. Thanks To Ian, Pauline and John and everyone else who helped to make it such a great night. The dance floor was packed at 10.30pm and most of those still turned up to swim this morning. Good on ya folks!

Sooze, Chris, Sheena and Dave got in to the spirit of things!

As did Roz, Janet, Leisa and Suzy. (These photos are not in order,  you can tell by the inebriated eyes that this was taken later in the night ;-)!

Two gorgeous gals Sophie and Megan

…and here’s Shaun pulling one of his beautiful faces with these lovely ladies

Ken was ‘on fire’ again at this year’s party 😉

Nice to see Stephen and Krystina back with us, (but when will they ever swim again??)

Moonshine Bar has been renovated and is now ‘Henrys Bar’ and it was a brilliant venue. Thanks to The Steyne for hosting us.

Lots of room for the 200 + people that made it!

Most innovative head gear prize goes to Nicky and Merrilee!

Once again Michele was top bidder for an art work with money raised going to Royal Far West. This is one of Georgina Hart’s great, fun, unique and heart-warming paintings.

Sarah, Sue-Marie and John

Special mention to the amazing band too. Thank you!

Now back to this morning’s swim. It was a little cloudy but air temp was 19 and water temp 20.5 degrees and conditions good! Around 250 of us got some well needed ‘vitamin sea’ after the excesses of Christmas parties and probably 80 or so swam who partied last night! (Some even exceeded the usual B&B bedtime of 9.30pm too!)

Here we have 2 of our 6 newbie swimmers in between Julie. Graham a marine biologist from California and Julie’s son Luke.

Quite flat with a gentle wave to wake us up

Loads of Mados and Pomfred around the rocks

The Old Wives in their usual spot…

Alex, Cath and John at Shelly

Great background photo bomb!

Brian, Mike and Michael. Great to see you’ve ditched the wetsuits!

Kristof and Kristof’s father-in-law join the A Team

The water visibility wasn’t too bad in places so a few ok photos. (All from today though JK!) Great to see our favourite, the Blue Groper

…and the flash of this purple Goatfish coming around the point

Not a very good pic but it’s still lovely to see the Luderick and Blackfish amongst the bright green sea grass as we swim in…

The Diamondfish were in their favourite rocky gorge

Here is Surf Lifesaving champ Merillee post-swim trying our Stephen and Krystina’s electric scooter! She looked as if she exceeded the 30 km ph speed limit!

Little Sarah got in the ocean today the first time after her eye op and loved it. Unfortunately Jon and her are off to Honkers early tomorrow so we won’t see them until 18th Feb 🙁 We look forward to seeing you then!

Pauline’s Annual Gogglebox Sale

Yes, it’s that time of year again. Every year about this time, Pauline gets sick of all the lost property junking up her car, so she sorts it all out and sells it at bargain prices, just to get rid of it. This year the sale will be next Saturday 15th December, so get there early to get the best gear. Goggles, swimsuits and other swimming paraphernalia will be on sale from 6.15 am, so if you have lost any gear through the year, come early and buy it back before someone else does. All proceeds from the sale will go to the Royal Far West.

SUMMER SWIMMING BADGES:
As the Summer long distance swimming season approaches, it seems appropriate to explain what it takes to earn a Summer badge. Three long distance swims are on offer:

  • The 6 km swims are held every summer Saturday morning starting with the 7 am swim. The first 6 km swim will be on Saturday 1st December.
  • There is a 10 km swim once a month over summer also starting with the 7 am swim. Dates for these will be announced in the blog. The first will be on December 8th.
  • If these swims are too long for you, you can try a Triple Manly to Shelly swim any day during Summer (distance 3.5 km) from 6.30or 7 am.

Please note, Badges will be awarded to swimmers completing any and/or all of the 3 swims at the times and dates stated above and throughout the Summer months.

You will earn a badge if you complete these swims and log them in iLog. The system will only record authorised 6K or 10K swims that are logged on the appropriate days. Badges will be presented at the Summer Badge Ceremony in March. If you are unsure of the routes and protocols for these swims, please ask at the desk before you swim. When swimming these longer distances, we request that, for safety reasons, you stay with the group. We also request that you do not swim in dangerous conditions. The quest for a little cloth badge is not worth putting your life at risk. Enjoy your swimming.

Have a great day folks!

Lainey
