Another fabulous start to the day!! I missed yesterday and I gotta say my day is just not the same without my ocean swim to start me off!
Water temp was: 22.3
143 and counting BnB Swimmers! (3 newbies!)
You probably recognise these 3 siblings! Here most mornings with their dad…they are not officially BnB’ers but they tag along with us! They go out in all weather too AND they DON’T WEAR WETSUITS IN WINTER! They looked disgusted when I pointed to Brad and Lucy and said “those 2 wear them even in Summer”! ;-p I told them if they swim with us they could get a WWW badge for their bravery 😉
Better than sitting at home watchings cartoons before school huh!
Stirling and Sophie clearly shopped together for their BnB inspired swim wear!
The sun just coming up as we head off…
Arriving at the point!
I think I need new goggles!
Lots of these guys on the beach 🙁 It only seemed to be 2 types of fish – little Puffers and leatherjackets! Probably chucked out from the nets of trawlers! Puts you off eating fish ?! What a waste….
No blog tarts today!
Lots of baby fish!!!!!!!!!!!
Did anyone leave their sunnies behind? I tried them on and instantly went dizzy and blind so my guess is they are subsription sunnies? See Ian if they are yours…
ahhhh this is what keeps us going on the freezing winter mornings! The thought of a nice hot cup of something and breaky!!
That’s all for today folks!! Have a lovely 12th of March!

So lovely and warm that even I can now swim without wetsuit…. just that tiny window in the year when I don’t come out with numb fingers and toes….. and so lovely not to have to lug the wet wetsuit around Manly afterwards:)
Forget the dead fish – there was a beautiful pink sky and lovely glassy conditions…. Lesley, why not join me for an early double next Wed so that you’ll have a captive blogtart ‘all the way’:-)

I think those dead fish are due to a virus. I’ve seen it before, particularly with the puffer fish, where heaps of them just drop dead.
It has happened off South America some years ago with Pilchards which were wiped out.
Perhaps Jane could shed some light on it?

I don’t feel the same after not swimming today…all slow and sluggish (a bit hungover too after a great night at Bluewater last night!) Another case of reading the blog and wishing i’d swam. thanks Lesbubbs!

You need to worry when she starts calling herself Lucy. Poor Brad, Brucy, Lucy….I bet he’s even sewing your badges onto his hoodie…… We all hope he’ll be cured after May 3rd….xx

Yes it was a good night at the cafe last night! Again, worth the pilgrimage. If any B&B-ers want to make a pilgrimage in the opposite direction, come to the Blue Mountains Blues and Roots Festival this weekend! Guaranteed good!

Great blog Lesbubbles.
Have to say those lost-and-found sunnies add about 20 years to your face. Horrible. Do not ever wear them again. EVER.

hi Guys ,
counted the dead fish along manly beach to queens cliff .. over 150 chinaman leather jackets and six “3 bar porcupine fish” .. all the porcupine fish were of a very similar size and the leather jackets were from 15 cm to 30 cm .. there was also one black reef leather jacket on the beach too .. with the rest that were at the bower and on shelly the numbers would be at least 250 but probably more .. a “natural” die off can occur with these species they can be susceptible to low oxygen mortality a result of localised algal blooms … close inspection of the fish showed fin and spine damage which would be concurrent with being netted and discarded as by catch .. same with the pufferfish ..all inflated ..indicates a life threatening stress and/or fast ascent .. the trawlers you have seen are tuna longliners [indiscriminate killers of all marine animals and sea birds … YOU are supporting THEM if you each tuna or feed it to your cat .. they are south coast based but fish in the pacific region as well as else where [as there are not many tuna left] .. they are permitted to trawl for bait [usually yellowtail] close inshore … so unless inside the reserve they can do what they like … remember fish are friends not food 🙂
