The days may be shortening, but on this golden Tuesday
morning 116 dedicated ocean swimmers assembled at the Surf Club for their daily heart starter. The sunrise was just our colour – pink. A good omen for the swim to Shelly.
Carmel from New York (on the left) was one of our new swimmers today. She joined us to overcome her fear of waves,
fish and sharks. By the end of the swim she
managed to encounter two of the three. There might even be another swim before her
departure in a few days time.
You might recall Channel 7 coming to film our remarkable Wilf Deck as part of a lifestyle
program. Well, rumour has it that the show will
be aired this coming weekend. Stay turned for more details. . .
With the water still at 24 degrees few squeals were heard as we made our way through the gentle waves.
A little weed has appeared along the beach. But don’t be put off, it is just for decoration!
Rhonda was feeling a little lonely at the Point – definitely
some ‘point drift’ going on this morning.
Perhaps it was because everyone wanted to get a better look at the amazing
golden light as the sun broke through the small bank of grey clouds.
Sadly visibility remains poor, so no fish photos today. The greenish water was full of lots of what looks like fish food.
All calm at Shelly as we quietly waited for everyone to
finish the crossing. Even the steadfast blog
tarts were chilling out – no doubt recharging their batteries after a busy
weekend of photo bombing and some serious blog tarting!!
Today’s Celeb Let’s
Go’er was Anne. Here she is being
inducted into the secret protocol by John.
Honestly, the swim was just too good to want to get out. The fun waves at Manly were enough to keep
some of the mob frolicking a little longer.
Back at the club, little groups gathered for the post-swim
analysis. There are always stories to
share about what we saw or just missed.
There were reports of Dusky Whaler sightings in the surf – pity Carmel missed them. Anne shared some of her secret protocol
knowledge with Jane and Michelle. The
whistle is an important asset for capturing attention for special announcements before the swim and at Shelly. No doubt with practice they will soon be reaching a Jules decibel!
After such a swim one can feel very smug as we watch those
ready for the office stride by on their way to work.
If you missed today, do try for tomorrow.
Catch you on the blog next week.

Well done Mary! Finally a decent blog post. After two consecutive days of utter rubbish..
How great is the water temperature at the moment. Consistently warm, even when you’re not trailing Lesley!
The photo of JK instructing Anne on the secret protocol of ‘Let’s Go!’ is disturbing. I dont think Julie ever scratched her armpits in the process..

Lovely swims and great blogs…..
I expect that Lady Ready for the Office felt smug that she was dressed, wearing shoes and had coiffed hair, unlike all us S.Steyne layabouts:-)

BnB operations manual. Ch4, P37:
“If lacking the ability to whistle, one may employ the ‘armpit f@rt’ comedy sound effect as a means of gaining the attention of swimmers”.

Great to see a blog we can all read and enjoy ..and not a blog tart in sight – how refreshing!

Congratulations Mary, your effort today proves something I never thought was possible – producing an entertaining blog without a “tart” in sight. Well done!

Snorkles (blog tart queen) never thought I would hear you say that! It wouldn’t be because you weren’t there yourself to chalk up the spreadie points would it? Didn’t want LSA to get further ahead??

I can attest to the presence of thousands of fish on the early lap…in fact the yellowtail were streaming along almost at surface level directly at my face. I think they were gorging on lice, though I did come to a standstill at the initial fright I got.
Great blog Mary. Lovely photos.

You captured the perfect swim beautifully Mary. Jane and Wilf are becoming blog tarts if you ask me.It is such a great time to swim at the moment with sunrises around the same time as our swims!

Top tip for lice: wear a rashie! I used to be a lice magnet until i wore one

Lesley, when dealing with lice, prevention is better than cure. If you do regular lice hair checks on the whole family, you can tackle any small outbreaks more easily than waiting to deal with a full-blown infestation.

Thanks for the lice tip Leswee, I was a lice magnet at the weekend!!
