Welcome to Sighday. The frenetic energy of the weekend has dissipated; the Monday blues are so yesterday; Tuesday is the day to breathe deeply and
soak in the remarkable molten gold of today’s sunrise.
Don’t know if it is the badge or the addiction
of winter swimming, but there were 101 swimmers throwing themselves into the
refreshing – reckon that is what you will call it – 18.9 degree water. Some still doing it without wetsuits.
The light on the swimmers entering the water
is amazing! They are totally bathed in
the red/orange light of the rising sun.
But the Shelly Shiver is waiting for us. Really by the time you reach Shelly what hasn’t
warmed up in the exertion of the crossing is totally numb anyhow.
The race for the return begins!! See how swiftly we move at the ‘Let’s Go’ – not.
The laggards today were the marine critters.
Even Elaine, the fish paparazza, was
unable to spot any in the usual spots.
However, the blue groper was out and about moving very swiftly attending to his fishy business.
I don’t know their proper names, but
these lovely fish are always darting about your feet at
Manly. The almost transparent ones blend into the sand so often it is just the little black eyes that give them away.
Have a great day and don’t forget to breathe.
Tomorrow is hump day – so the rush to the weekend will begin again. . .
And, Happy Birthday to Eric 🙂

Wine Dinner
at Whitewater
On Thursday 20th June, Whitewater
Restaurant is having a special one-off wine and food night hosted by
McWilliams Wines. McWilliams make some great wines, and to have them matched is great food is a true pleasure. They will offer five delicious courses with wines to
accompany each course. The cost to the general public is $120 per head, BUT
since they are offering B&B swimmers a 25% discount in June only, we
will get it for just $90.
We are organising a B&B table, but places are limited, so please SMS Ian
(0412 331 530) by this Thursday if you are interested.

Lovely blog Mary. Your first silver fish looks like a Whiting, probably a Sand Whiting aka Blue-nose Whiting , Sillago ciliata. The next one is a Yellowfin Bream, Acanthopagris australis. The common names (and even the scientific names) are regularly updated (i.e. changed!) – these are the names in my current textbooks.

I have to admit I was a little nervous Mary, thought you may have lied about having a camera yesterday. Relieved!
Great blog.

Jules M is my yard stick or whatever it’s called – to show how ‘far’ I have come with feeling the cold – 3 winters ago I nearly passed out at these temperatures! I understand how Jules is feeling!! Now I am not feeling it so much! You do acclimatise!
