11/05/2014 Swimming like SwimGirl

11/05/201420

Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous! That’s what this time of year is all about. Lovely sunny days and warm water …..and then there’s the stingers! Ouch! A few people were stung today.

Today, I decided to follow one of our newest swimmers, SwimGirl.

Here she is setting her alarm to go swimming at the weekends.

And as a good girl should, she heads to bed early, so she has plenty of energy for the morning!

Gear ready!

And off she drives and attempts to find a park.

JK greets SwimGirl and talks her through the beginners ropes.

She has heard about I-log so decides to use it, to log her swim.

Soon SwimGirl is mingling with the locals. It’s Helen last day for a few months today and she was one of the ‘lucky’ people to get stung! A passing gift from the ocean!

She encountered this rather strange exchange…..

…luckily then realised it just Lesley handing out B&B hoodies purchased from the website. One more happy and warm customer!

Cute puppy time!

Time to enter the water, due to size, SwimGirl was concerned about the waves.

They look huge from down here!

But, a lovely friendly B&B’er said she’d show her how it’s done.

….and carefully held her hands as SwimGirl headed off.

She’s heard about this guy (seen here disguised in new blue / white rash vest) who can be very disruptive in a swim. He is quoted to have said here “Oh are you looking for the Bold & Beautiful swimmers? No, they swim down the other end of the beach, right over there” So SwimGirl stayed away from him as much as she could.

Cue: ‘Arty shot against bright sky and silhouettes of swimmers’.

Let’s not forget, today is Mother’s Day and JK gave all the mums a ten second headstart!

Soon SwimGirl was duck diving to see what’s beneath.

This is mostly what we saw today……floaty bits!

Oh and a Wobby.

Garfish too.

Shelly time! Mingling and chatting as we do!

SwimGirl kept her distance from the one they simply call ‘Lips’

…and before we know it, it’s time to eat a well deserved brekkie….

…and grab a coffee and enjoy the sun.

SwimGirl would like to think the Bold & Beautiful for being there and making the start to her Sunday just that little bit more enjoyable!

B&B i-Log

Really if you haven’t been using the B&B i-Log then you must be new!! Almost 75% of swimmers are now using the B&B i-Log. Log your swim ANYTIME of day using this really efficient and easy way to ensure your swim is recorded in the daily attendance and on the Pacific Challenge. To get started, send an email to Ian Forster ugoboyo@gmail.com(This is not a link so please copy and paste into your email). He will check that your email address is activated on the attendance register then send you info on how to get started.

Staying safe

We have had seen the return of some serious waves and rips this past week! Were you prepared? Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

Thanks to everyone that helped me today – I really enjoyed my first swim!
I’m not sure of that guy they call ‘JK’, when I was introduced to him by Snorkles he said a rude word! (Due to the language barrier – I couldn’t quite understand him, but was told it was quite rude!)
Glad I managed to stay away from that pesky German too. I reckon those Lips are bigger than the whole of me!
    Thanks again and happy Sunday!

I spotted one dusky whaler today about halfway between Shelley Beach and the yellow toilet block. Unfortunately did not sight SwimGirl. Hope she signed the new swimmer log!

I hope swim girl didn’t suffer as many lice bites as I did this morning….. I didn’t realise I was on the Mother’s Day breakfast menu

SwimGirl, don’t believe anything they say about me. I’m the most misunderstood creature of cabbage tree bay. Did I mention I was awarded Swimmer Of The Day twice this year?

    Twice? What did that involve?

No Caro, mind you those lice are nearly as big as me!

    I have a question…
Did Swim Girl get stingers in her cossie?
Did it look just like a boat shed rash??

Nick!! I wont see SwimGirl till next Sunday now, so I’ll ask her then!
mind you judging by her photo diary she was in bed before the Boatshed even opens!

Swim Girl did great on her first swim even though she swam
The wrong way leaving Shelley beach.

I haven’t had such a good laugh in ages specially the wonderful “live footage” of swim girl – so nice that adults too can have fun!
    Cheers

Thanks Marije! Was it you in that blue rash vest who helped me at Shelly? Being new I didn’t understand what I was doing! Great swim!
