OK, It’s a quick short blog im afraid.
It wasn’t raining, the waves were
small and the ocean didn’t smell of run off – all positive points. I assumed it
would be a pleasant to enjoyable swim. Wrong…
Everyone set off
in brave B&B fashion unaware of the army that awaited around the corner.
It was a fair
fight, Blue Vs Pink. Blue won hands down. By the time most people got to half
way there were shouts and squeals of ‘ouch’ ‘arrrrgh’ and ‘ow’. (me included)
A fair amount
turned around and headed back to shore, some carried onto Shelly, some went
North. Some didn’t even know there were any stingers at all and swam both ways
totally unscathed.
Not the best
day for your first swim but I doubt that will put anyone off.
Have you seen this man?
He is wanted for questioning about dealing the highly addictive ‘Pink Hat’. Apparently users of ‘pink Hat’ become quickly addicted and the addiction is easily passed from user to friends in just a matter of days. ‘Pink Hat’ abuse is now almost at epidemic proportion in Manly. If you see him, Let us know by commenting on this blog.

To the 19 Newbies: It’s not always like this!!! Come again tomorrow:-)
Both Jon and I had extreme pain in the lymph glands in our arm pits – you know you’ve really copped it then….
11.00 and the pain in my arm is still excruciatingly – I’ve had it wrapped in ice and bandages since returning from breakfast where I lingered as long as possible enjoying the comraderie and later the birthday cake which definitely eases the pain!
Wishing everyone else a speedy recovery! Thx for the hot shower, Anna & Lori!

Yes what were you up to last night Lesbutt? Still a great swim. Think I’m getting immune to blueys as one wrapped around my arm and it’s hardly even left a mark! Funny blog Tim! Love the wanted poster! Hope all bluey wounded get better soon!

Elaine you are Michelin woman! You simply picked up that big blue bugger, looked him in the eye, and laughed him off and set him back on his way!! At least if there are stingers at huskinson you will blitz the whole field by just swimming through them!!

Thanks Aly but doesn’t a Michelin woman have spare tyres??! I do need some kind of advantage at Husky though! I do hope the newbies aren’t put off swimming with us. Poor LSA , Lucy and Jane Bluey Catchers. Haven’t you got any special stuff from your Chinese doctor LSA Triad Queen?

Ha, ha….. certainly no Michelin tyres on you:-)
14.00 Incredible – I tried my full pill-pushing kit, but still a very deep nerve-like pain right down my arm to my finger tips! Can’t believe there wasn’t even a blog-worthy pic to show for it!
Yes, hope Lucy, Jane Bluey and all have recovered…
One of Mark’s little girls was so courageous, not even crying after getting stung on her finger. A true ocean swimmer:-)
Time for another Chinese panadol! Happy New Year of the Snake everyone!

Great blog Tim. Captured the day perfectly. Happy Birthday Drinky.
Great birthday photo. I”ll bring the photo in to Amber Tiles when I come in this week.
Ill leave the photo with Mrs Drinky if your not there. Congratulations, 45yrs is a big achievement!!!
Great work Storchy spotting a cake to match the occasion.
A friend lost a camera in the seaweed yesterday in the rip at the surf club, if anyone comes across it, please let me know. It is attached to small float!!
HKTQ, your empire is growing so quick, the integrity police are very concerned. Any room for two more Henchmen. We are very concerned that if you get stung, some one MUST PAY!!
Btw, while patting your evil cat and doing the evil laugh thing, doesn’t it get awkward when you stop laughing

Like Lainey-Loo I might be getting a resistance to Blueys. I was badly stung all over shoulders and back, both legs and arms. The weals looked very dramatic but it was all practically painless. Last time hurt much more. Thankyou to all my nurses who gave me an antihistamine tablet, hot shower and Anna’s lovely pawpaw cream.

Probably not much help now but there was some sort of red and white float bobbing around at halfway. Not retrievable from the safety of dry land.
Unusual phenomenon seeing the mass of pink do a retreat. Hope the wounded recover quickly.

Yes i discovered a new bar …in cronulla!!! Was a great night..i was home by 10pm!! and i knew when i woke up this morning that there would be stacks of blueys…so glad i didn’t come.
A bluey wrapped around my arm yesterday and it didn’t sting either … Unfortunately i think it’s fresh un-sun damaged skin that they affect the most

Aagh I got OWNED by the blue bottles and FELT them… Jane and Elaine! You’re both troopers!
Thanks to newbie Matthew and Bill (?) who walked back from Shelley with me, I was pretty shaky. Thanks Lori and Anna for the hot shower, I think I left my fins in the change room though. And finally those that came to the rescue with ouch spray – Thank you.
The feeling has finally returned to my hands and no longer swollen and look like sausages.

17.30 the pain in my arm is a little more “localised” now and I just remembered the Triad Thai scraping technique which helps somewhat:-)
I got a few stings and wrap arounds which were very superficial, but knew immediately that this one was much deeper than the others, much more of an “elecric shock” when targeted by the Blue-Bottle Gang!
We’ll all be back tomorrow with the winds on our side:-))

Oh Triad Queen! I can’t blieve you started without me this morning.. I would have taken the bluey bullet for you. It would have been an honor!
Hope you and the other victims are feeling better by now.
But you are right, the southerly change came exactly as per schedule and with full force. So that should take care of the little buggers for the next few days.
See you all for a bluey free swim tomorrow!

Lucy’s sting around the neck looked nasty indeed.
Unlike Swedish Sarah, who seriously tried to pass her shoulder / neck sunburn off as a bluey sting. Nice try Swedish Sarah!

Andrew’s birthday week has been so successful we are extending it out for a month!!!!
Come one come all!!!!! We know all you girls want to give this shy retiring male a hug and your
well wishes.
Don’t be put off by his dashing handsome looks, he’s very approachable!
Males may also cuddle him, so long as it looks blokey-like and voices are kept deep!!!
Lets do the pink-caps thing, strive for a record! The most number of birthday cuddles over the next month.
Multiple cuddles on odd days acceptable.
Jules I, you can come home, that AVO’s been lifted!!

These descriptions make me realise I got away quite lightly when I had a bluebottle sting at North Curl Curl back in late November. I can still just about see the light-coloured line on my elbow where I was stung, but I didn’t get any of the after-effects described above. Best wishes for a rapid recovery to all those stung today.
