10/07/2012 – Not One but Two Cuttlefish !!

10/07/201210

89 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

These are seriously impressive numbers of people swimming mid week, mid winter.  It’s hardly surprising though really when you have such wonderful people to play with in our amazing playground every single morning.

This morning was yet another magnificent swim

Which saw a touch of Coitus Interruptus for these 2 beautiful Giant Cuttlefish when Sandy swam over them, interrupting their activities…  But as Jane pointed out we may have saved their lives as these beautiful creatures die after mating.

They were certainly looking spectacular and to see two of them together was such a privilege.

Sandy was on fire this morning as she also spotted this Eagle Ray which was nicely nestled in the sand in the deepest part of the bay.  From the surface he looked like a small Stingaree with an insanely long tail, but when you dived down you could see it was a beautifully camouflaged Eagle Ray 🙂

Perfect conditions for Simon to play with his new camera, except for the added excitement of the rinse cycle on the way back in, resulting in what seemed to take forever to reach the shore.

I must say I did feel a little under-dressed this morning though when I saw Michelle swimming in her earrings… 🙂

As always there were plenty of swimmers wearing beautiful big smiles 🙂

2 swimmers also enjoyed the pre-dawn lap, 7 continued on afterwards for a double and 2 of those for a further triple.

28 swimmers have now qualified for their winter badge !!  To see who they are and how you and your friends are tracking please click here

It’s still not too late to start you know… with 52 days and 8 weeks (including this week) of winter left to go and to qualify you only need to swim 20 times over a minimum of 7 different weeks !!  You don’t want to be the one that misses out especially when winter swimming really is the best.  After all you don’t get to see Cuttlefish in summer !!!

Now check out these two exceptional photos of Gaetan’s taken on Monday !!!!!!

A superb shot of the lovely Port Jackson Shark

And the Giant Cuttelfish

Plus an amazing video here.  If you haven’t seen one of Gaetan’s videos before, you should !  If you have, you know you will want to watch this one too !!

We currently have 31 people booked in for our next monthly special B&B dinner at Bluewater on Monday 30th July.  If we get at least 50 bookings we will have the whole restaurant to ourselves !! 🙂  It was a fantastic night last month with superb food so don’t miss out this month… please book in now by clicking here

Dinner is $20 each including shared entrees, a selection of mains to choose (incl vegetarian option), corkage (for byo wine only) plus a little thank you from each of us to the staff !  All beers (including 4 pines) and desserts only $5.

GAETAN! How do you do it? Such clear beautiful shots!! PROFESSIONAL!! I think I know what your next career is going to be!
I can’t believe I missed the cuttle fish today…2 of them! I saw 1 yesterday and they are even more amazing in real life..
AND I missed the eagle ray! I did see a little shark – it was so sweet.
Lovely swim – not so cold waiting at shelly either and I even went to work afterwards without a coat on!!

I don’t waste my time trying to see all those ‘fishy’ animals when I’m swimming. Its much easier just to have a look at Gaetan’s video afterwards!!
Well done yet again Gaetan. Great shots of all of them. Good to see someone at last got a shot of a JIMBLE.

Cool video Gaëtan, what camera do you use?
It must be a French thing (I do no think I am taking any risk by assuming that Gaëtan is French) to be keen on capturing underwater life 😉 (I do the same!)

Oh I just saw the video! so good – that little blue groper is so CUTE with his flapping fins! I reckon you’ve got really big lungs Gaeten to get down to the motor bike AND then film around it!!
ps. Francois – yes he is French! 🙂

I think we really had 2 great days with the best clarity we could ask for that helped a lot with taking very clear photos!
As for the lungs Lesley, nothing special, but I use a weight belt (as you all know I am very skinny and light :-)))) so it helps me a lot to go down easily (this way I don’t use too much O2 on my way down).
