09/11/2013 – Overcast but never dull

November 9, 201310

What a crazy start to the swim today.  It started of very overcast which always makes the water look so inviting. Well that’s just my opinion.  Others may disagree.

John let everyone know of the unpredictable surf condtions.   The waves look so deceiving.  Depending on what time you went through the waves it could be very rough or just a little rough.  In the few photos below it looks so calm.

And then as it gets closer to 7 the surf miraculously starts to pick up in anticipation for our swim.  Here are the 6:30 crew heading out.

Seriously boys, you know what I am saying is true, women really are the better drivers.

You know its a big swell when you can see the waves over our heads and you fall over putting your fins on.

On a dull day this swim outfit makes the day seem so much brighter.   Loving the shorts and goggles.  Hope you enjoyed the swim and thanks for brightening our morning.

It was a tough swim getting out through the waves this morning. With wave after wave it was hard to catch a breath.  Sorry folks there are no photos on the way out as I was too busy duckdiving the waves.

And finally we make it to Shelly where everyone agreed it was one of the toughest swims at Manly Beach in a while.  What a challenge.  Some enjoy the larger waves while others opt for the leisurely swim from Fairy Bower.

Leisa looks a little cold this morning.

Looks like Leisa got in a Shelly today judging by her water mark on her Budgie Smugglers.  Bit cold are you Leisa?

I managed to catch Wilf in the water this morning.  He is always an inspiration to the B&B Team and up for a chat.

There wasn’t alot to been seen in the water this morning, but I did manage to find a Wobbiegong.

And finally the Eagle Ray that I have been longing to spot was found today.  It was my lucky day. It was swimming so gracefully along the bottom of the ocean.  What an amazing creature.  Love the way they fly through the water.

Out at half way today.  It was all calm here with not a wave in sight, but we were cocooned by seaweed. On a positive note it was great for exfoliation.

Vanessa and friend looking happy and fresh after their swim.

The long walk back to the surf club.

Some shots of the crazy surf on the way back in.

Happy Birthday Dr John

Now for something different that you can save for a rainy day, well might be later today as it looks like we are in for a wet few days.  I have put together this Jigsaw of the Cuttlefish that should keep you out of trouble for a while. Just click on the link below.

B & B Attendance Login App

The new B & B Attendance Login App is now operational. This App allows you to login from your computer or phone before or after you swim (between the hours of 5 am and 9 am on the day of the swim). You will then not need to tick the attendance sheet. The aim of the new system is to reduce the amount of effort involved in entering the daily attendance data. This has become necessary due to the large increase in the number of swimmers in recent times.

If you would like to log in electronically each morning and help reduce the load on our administrative staff, please send an email to Ian Forster (ugoboy@optusnet.com.au) . Your account will then be activated and you will receive detailed instructions how to operate the system. Happy ticking.

Staying safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly!  While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits.  Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf.  To read, or even download, click here.

Bold and Beautiful Swim School

Sarah Anne Evans, B&B’s official Pacific Jules swim coach, has organised a group swim school at Shelley Beach for any willing B&B swimmers who want to improve their style. The cost is $30 and it’s limited to 15 people. During the 90 minute session Sarah Anne and Warren Evans will be covering how to swim with more efficiency, flow and speed! If the water is clear and calm enough they will film each person for feedback after the session via email.

The latest date available for the B&B Swim School is 21st December.

(This will be the last swim school for the year. More next year. Schools on 30 November and 14 December are both full)

If you would like to book in you should call or email Sarah Anne and you will be sent further information, including the date, time and payment details. Phone  0420 923 067  or email info@pacificjules.com.au
