09/02/14 surf or swim?

09/02/201418

Update ……The monthly dinner on Tuesday night is now booked out. If you have booked seats and are not able to attend, can you please contact Ian (ugoboyo@gmail.com) as there are people on the waiting list who would like to attend.

Answer: Swim of course! Manly puts on the sun for the opening of the surfing comps and we do what we do best, swim!

Some rolling sets this morning. I caught some early birds trying them out.

A big stttrrreeeeeeetch before a swim is a good thing.

Nice to see Izzy back with us again.

And Greg brought along his great nephew.

Waiting in anticipation at 6:55.

And we’re off….the ramp starts filling up…

Our first swimmers embrace the waves.

Some stop in time for a photo.

I get a waves eye view.

Crossing over 6:30 arrivals, 7am departures.

Wave jumping. A popular past time.

A rare sight! Nigel’s ‘hot pants’ (with Nigel in them luckily) “Welcome back Nigel, do you need someone to show you the way?”

Here’s a view from the point.

A bit more limbering up with Sarah’s stretch class.

Round to Half way and a few small waves there too.

*This photo above may/may not contain 6 b&b swimmers in.

Tactics were discussed, then Greg led the group.

So many of us today, that at Shelly beach we had to have specially assigned volunteers to crowd control.

Here’s a selection of pics at Shelly, see if you can spot yourself. I tried to get all of you!

These two challenged the boys to a fast swim back. Who won girls?

We filled the whole waters edge today 😉

I was lucky enough to have this fish pointed out to me, am amazed the person actually spotted it from above. It looked like a big clump of seaweed!

Two eagle rays were in the bay, a smaller one.

And a larger one.

And here’s the ray in flight…

Happy sunday!

B&B i-log

Now that the new work year has kicked in, save time and be ever so efficient, by using the B&B i-log. It’s a smart phone friendly website so no need to download, just bookmark it. There are so many good reasons to use the B&B Login – like no queues, no need for glasses to find your name, never missing the 7am call, and you can do it on the bus or ferry on the way to work.

Log your swim ANYTIME that day for an easy way to ensure your swim is recorded in the daily attendance and on the Pacific Challenge. To get started, send an email to Ian Forster (ugoboyo@gmail.com). He will check that your email address is activated on the attendance register then send you info on how to get started

Summer badge swims

Every Saturday during summer there will be a 6km swim – usual route is to Freshwater and back; then once a month there is a 10km swim – this is to South Curl Curl and back. However, the final route depends on conditions that day so it is a good idea to arrive a little early to have a briefing from the designated swim leader. Both swims kick off at 7am.

The proposed date for the next 10km swim is 15 February depending on conditions. This date will depend on final confirmation of local surf carnivals so keep checking the blog for updates.

Bolderdash

This daily swim to Queenscliff and back DEPARTS the surf club at 5.50am. As these are generally intimate groups, please WAIT for everyone in the water before heading off. Do buddy up with someone – great to be with someone who has the same pace – that way everyone is ‘accounted for’ at Queenscliff.

Staying safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

Great blog Snorks. And in record time too! Did Stephen help?
I just want to put it on the record that I beat Lesley on the return swim today. She claims it wasn’t a race, but I know it was.
Ian – I registered for Tuesday dinner but some work thing came up and I can’t go now. Can you please offer my seat to one of the thousand or so swimmers on the wait in list?

    Great blog Snorks
Record time, you tube ray, you have it all.
And a reminder that we agreed to start training for the Sydney skinny this Tuesday at 7am.
Just get ready and wait outside the club for me.
I may be late but I’m sure you will find someone to talk to.
    🙂

I found a gardening glove, plastic funnel, pen, straw, various plastic bags AND of course the usual condom on swim today 😉

I forgo the coffee catch up this morning 🙁 to manage the record time!
I also managed a 3 minute dive down south. Why only 3 minutes? Cos I lost half my weight as I jumped in and couldn’t sustain being half as light 😉
If only we could lose body weight as quick!

All over the you tube feature! Expect many more!
Oh yes!! The training! What I thought I’d do is swim my 6:30 in training for the training then meet you at 7, ok?
I’ll try not to talk to too many swimmers….
So, just my fins wasn’t it?

That’s a worry (you beating Lesley!). Just hoping it’s because Lesley has slowed down!!

Ah, relieved that that was what slowed you down. For a moment I was worried that Lips had speeded up!!
