To continue on from last week and ‘swimming in winter’…. An important step after the swim is wrap up warm….so tshirts and thongs are out and ugg boots and thick warm clothing is in! It will help a lot especially if you are hanging about after…Also nothing beats the sun as the best heater ever! There is a tiny corner away from the wind and in direct sun…it’s the far right corner of the garage door at the surf club….the regulars are seen huddling here afterwards!
I hear last nights BnB / Bluewater dinner went well with a talk from Shark-Girl Valerie Taylor…. thanks to everyone who helped make it as always a fun success!
Another boring sunrise….. 😉 (*Lips / Rainer is MIA this morning not sure if it’s this horrendous strain of Man-Flu OR that Germany slaughtered Brazil 7 – 1 in the semi-final!!)
Guess the silhouette?
Candy Bingham joined us this morning…a scarf and hat with wetsuit eh??
The kids are taking over! Here’s Cameron asleep AGAIN before the swim…Monday’s guest blogger Luca drumming up ideas for his next blog perhaps? (one of these kids was a newbie too – I last saw her on the edge of the water not keen to get in and I don’t blame her it takes a lot of balls guts to get in as an adult let alone a kid…AND to get into the water when it’s so cold but also scary ocean!)
The water was a bit choppy this morning…which makes it hell getting in!! BUT with all that extra work I had to put in to get to Shelly I warmed up …sort of…
The obligatory Shelly shot – Cam bottom right – he got there before me!!
Despite the chop – it’s still lovely and clear and sooooooooooooooo many fish!
MILLIONS of tiny fish too! I have never seen so many here!
Below Rod in the middle is a recent addict I mean convert to BnB and is now adjusting his life around his morning swim!
Another SUPER swim – wow ..yes it’s cold but so much to see!

Did you know Ballet and Swimming are great together!
Are you interested in doing Ballet (for adults) either for the FIRST time in your life (or if you did a bit as a kid). Well there is a ballet class for beginners adults every Tuesday evening at 7pm (behind St Matts Church, Manly)…1 hour class……
Not only is it a good work out – but it can teach you great posture, poise and much more….which can actually help with SWIMMING! Haven’t you all noticed how ballerina-like I am in the water! 😉
I have been doing it a year now and LOVE it (and it was my first time EVER doing ballet!)
Any age, any ability and men as well!!
If you are interested please contact:

Perfect fish and ballerina shots.

Shaun/DWSS, are you out there? I used your tip for getting in this morning and it worked a treat!!
I ran into a child swimmer half way to the point but I apologised profusely and then I was off again…
Thanks very much. Might see you at ballet.

I’m sure most are aware but FYI Frosty Nut #4 Michael Teys completed the English Channel swim in the early hours here, with a smashing time of 11hrs 22min, a huge achievement for all 4 Frosties. Looking forward to one very tired handler home !

Glad to hear it Anna.
Just to clarify, I did not advise to take out a child swimmer on the way to the point to take your mind off the cold. I think that is Lips’ method of cold water entry.
My tip –
Once disrobed – get into the water as quick as you can.
That entails
– no stopping to check who JK has a crush on this week
– no stopping to chat and ensure Veena and Katrina that there are no sharks out there.
– no stopping to listen to ANY German or Dutch regarding cup events.
Get in the water as quick as you can
Get swimming as quick as you can
Sprint out to the point as quick as you can.
By the time you are at the point you should be comfortable.

Lesbubbles, I did miss the swim due to the match. Not the man-flu. And I have no regrets.
And for the record, I had a cold shower at 9am.

Great underwater shots Lesley.
A bit bumpy today but we were compensated by that bright sun over a clear horizon.
Congratulations to Michael on his successful Channel crossing and in an outstanding time . Again congratulations to all 4 Frosty Nuts on their great achievement.

Great blog … but I’m a bit alarmed at Lesbub feeling cold. I rely on Lesbub to be the stoic champion of cold water swimming!

Lesley,
Cameron thinks you are very funny and says he’s going to take a catnap whenever he sees you!
There was no catnapping once we hit those waves this morning! Getting him to do ballet lessons with me, know there’s a challenge.
