After all the buzy commotion of the weekend’s Cole Classic and Sun Run and Bluebottles last week, it was back swimming across Cabbage Tree Bay for many of us today! We’ve been swimming the Harbour, from Shelly and many at Balmoral but it was great to be back in this special corner. The swell was down from yesterday too so it was in from our usual spot and across this gorgeous bay at staggered starts this morning.
Thanks to Heather for this beautiful shot at sunrise. I was over the other side trying to keep up with my running group!
This is what the back of Shelly Beach looked like at 6.20am
The Wows are pretty much in their own bubble. Here they are going in for Debbie Amos’s birthday swim. Debbie usually comes down from Galston but stayed at The Sebel for a birthday treat and the journey took her 50 seconds instead of minutes!
Here’s Karen Sander with her partner Colin. She’s glowing after the success of her ‘Story Room’ last Tuesday night which sold out with 100 people listening to 6 story tellers. Be sure to book your tickets for next month! It’s at Henrys Bar, The Steyne. One of our legendary celebrity swimmers will be one of the story tellers!
Casey and Jess, a couple of the well performing Manly Real Estate Agents who swim with us (along with others like Adam and Mark from another excellent Agency!)
The water was cloudier this morning but there was a beautiful Spotted Wobbegong around and Fiddler Ray.
It was a bit clearer over at The Bower Surf Break and Gary the Groper was as friendly as ever. I do love him!
Post-swim smiles from Georgina and Sooze. Sooze told me how today is the 4 year anniversary of her Dad’s death back in the UK. However it was dealing with the loss of her dear Dad that got her in to swimming with The B&B first at the pool and then when she got stronger with us in our fish-filled Cabbage Tree Bay. I met Sooze at our Mother’s Group reunion and encouraged her to come down. She’s now hooked! It’s also led to a whole load of new friendships. Georgina too recently had tough times but the swim and swimming friends helped her through…
Jane, Lisa, Amanda, Amanda, birthday girl Debbie and soon Mum to be Jac…exuberant at the end of their swim!
This is David Brown and if anyone wants to take off for a holiday in a campervan but hasn’t got one, he’s the man to see! He’s renting his 2016 VW Campervan out with a 10% reduction for B&Bers!
Some photos below that I’ve taken in last 2 weeks since last blog in various locations!
So exciting to see a Seahorse for the first time and it looks like he, yes he is pregnant!
Crested Horn Shark
Well done everyone who participated in the Cole Classic on Sunday and also to the many B&Bers who volunteered. A few of volunteers at Bag Drop with Roger Harvey t.shirts pictured above.
Michele, Andrew and Harvey. The two brave ladies couldn’t swim at all a few years ago and Harvey used to have panic attacks in the ocean. Here they are after their 2km swim. Well done guys!
Some of the Mermaids and Mermen after their swim on Sunday. Another huge congrats!
Thanks to Budgy Smuggler, B&B’s Random Swimmer of the Month for January is: Shelley Keeble
Shelley is the lucky recipient of a voucher for a pair of men’s Budgy Smugglers
Congratulations Shelley and keep on swimming
To be in the running to be Swimmer of the Month all you need to do is log your swims

Thanks Lainey. Really enjoyed your blog and so interesting to hear stories of why people started swimming. So very generous of them to share.
