Ever heard of an OODA loop?
It’s an acronym for ‘Observe, Orient, Decide, Action’; a combat term created by John Boyd, exploring how agility and efficiency can overcome a seemingly more powerful adversary.
It also describes the evolutionary cycles that allowed you to develop from a single cell organism to the masterpiece you see when you look in the mirror. Many of the biological systems that you consist of have been running OODA loops since the beginning of life on this planet.
You can thank your distant ancestors’ OODA loops for the fact that you could shiver and regulate your core temperature as you entered the water this morning. But OODA loops aren’t limited to the inter-generational development of genetic evolution.
They’re also determining the personal evolution you enjoy within your own lifetime. Right now, with your conscious responses to the world around you. The more effective your OODA loops, and the better you can break free from obsolete loops, the faster you solve and evolve. And the more ground you can gain against your most steadfast adversary – time.
