08/09/2020 – The Elixir of Life…Our Swim!

September 8, 20207

BOLD & BEAUTIFUL SWIM GROUP IS CURRENTLY NOT RUNNING DUE TO THE RISKS OF CORONAVIRUS(COVID-19). IT IS IMPORTANT TO CONTINUE PHYSICAL DISTANCING AND FOLLOW PUBLIC HEALTH ADVICE.

Thank you for swimming at different times of the day and please continue to stay safe and remember to maintain 1.5m distance.

Peta’s birthday today! Peta was swimming across beautiful Cabbage Tree Bay with a small group of swimmers even before Julie Isbill started back in 2008 but soon joined in with The Bold and Beautiful! At 65 she’s proof that our swim keeps you young!

Another ‘Happy Birthday’ and accolade for Ian Forster who works tirelessly to keep this amazing group going even with people swimming at different times during covid. Thank you SO much Ian. This young man was 70 yesterday! As he’s not on Facebook a lot of us didn’t know but keep those happy birthday greetings going all week, he deserves it! He must be missing the hugs so much too so give him an elbow nudge!

We can’t forget to thank John Kelly too who does so much as well. Here he is recording today’s temp. Still pretty cold at 16.5 but air temp is forecast to reach 24 today taking away that nip in the air. For an old scouser he’s not doing too bad for his age either!

This smiley faced dude can often be seen chatting to swimmers but you rarely catch him wet. Maybe Anthon will join us swimming with a pink cap on soon!

Some of these ladies have travelled 45 minutes to get to the swim this morning!

Danny and Jo always swim early without a wettie and report on conditions and sightings for later swimmers. Thanks guys!

Rusty and Sterling salute to the sun. Rusty is ‘Catch of the Day’ today for any lovely, single ladies out there, (although Sheena and I have a few who are dying to meet him!)

Bondy is swimming mid mornings now. I was lucky enough to catch him in the bay a couple of days ago

Dorset, Roger and JK will be appearing at Manly Boatshed Monday Comedy night soon. Ask Rog for details 😉

After years of wearing wetsuits all year around Merrilee and Sheena decided to risk hypothermia and swim without them at the weekend. Sheena couldn’t wipe the smile off her face for hours afterwards!

There’s still a Cuttlefish around. He’s usually between Shelly and the toilet block so look out!

Crested Horn Shark

The bluest of Gropers!

Crimson Banded Wrasse!

Groper in a school of Mados

The Wows!

Ian’s birthday splash last year!

Sorry for the quick blog but off to work. Have a great day guys!

Winter Badge Collection 2020

Congratulations to all those who completed their Covid-19 winter swimming challenge. As almost 600 swimmers qualified, the badge distribution this year will be different in order to maintain a Covid-safe environment for our volunteers. Unfortunately, only virtual handshakes and hugs from Ian, John, Anne and Pauline and contact-less distribution.

There is only one way you can obtain your badge(s)

  1. Inside a self-addressed, stamped envelope place cash for your badge/s – $10 per badge for the Covid Badge (if you completed 20 swims over winter) and an extra $10 for the Ice Cold Corona Badge if you did those swims without a wetsuit. Family members/friends sharing an envelope must clearly name each swimmer and badge achieved. Please check postage rates and size of envelope required for multiple badges.
  1. Post this envelope in another envelope to Ian Forster, 6 Bligh St, Northbridge. 2063.

Badges will be posted as soon as they arrive. If you have any other badges that you are missing and wish to purchase, please include cash for those as well.

Lovely to see you blogging Lainey! How else would we know how old all the birthday B&Bs are or who is the “Catch of the Day” today!
Super pics! Love the 45min travelling ladies and if Sheena is swimming in a bikini it means it’s time for us all to think about shedding our wetties! x
Happy Birthday again to Peta and Ian! x
