08/03/2014 – Manly Aquarium at our fingertips

08/03/201421

What an amazing start to the day.  It’s the opposite of last week’s weather.  Last week I though it was going to be sunny yet it wasn’t and this week I expected to wake up to rain, but the sun was shining.    People often ask me if the water is getting colder in the ocean.  They are suprised when I tell them it is actually getting warmer and here is the proof from our water weatherman John Bond.

With the sun coming up so late these days it give me that little bit of extra time for a sleep in and I can still manage to catch the sunrise.  This is how it looks at 6:20 in the morning these days. Dark but full of life.

And on the other side of Manly where all the action is, well in the water that is.

It’s nice to see Alison back swimming again, with her husband watching baby Lukas while she takes a quick swim.  Ted & Jane.

Lukas ready for his swim

Here are some of the swimmers who went out at 5:30 this morning to catch the light in the bubbles of water.  They were so looking forward to their coffee’s that they were hanging around the cafe waiting for it to open like a moth to a flame. Hope you got to see what you went out for girls.

So today I decided to get a few shots of the next generation of B&B swimmers.  Not quite sure if he is impressed or not.

and a new B&B swimmer on the way.

Couldn’t resist taking this shot as they are so colour co-ordinated.

I didn’t catch your name’s, but I hope that you enjoyed your first swim and got to take in some of the scenery.  Loving the female swimsuits these days.  Think we should make these a B&B regular swimwuit.

Now let’s see how well you know people at B&B.  Can you guess who owns these tattoo’s?

It was birthday celebrations this morning.  Happy Birthday to Cynthia and Richard.

and congratulations to Michelle Harris who reached the 1,00km mark today.

As I was swimming along this morning I was wondering what all the fuss is about and this was what it was.

A huge Cuttlefish.

Ted found the gorgeous little Puffa Fish this morning.

I managed to find the Zoanthids this morning.  They are amazing looking.

I found this little sting ray hiding amongst the weeds.

This is an awesome shot that Nick took this morning that felt I had to share with you.

Sarah managed to find this blind shark hiding near the rocks.  It kept swimming away from us but i don’t know how he knew we were there seeing as it is blind. he he

Stats:

Swimmers: 280

Newbies: 19

Water: 22.8c

Sunrise: 6:48

Have a great weekend everyone.

Awesome sunrise shots Renae and another great blog. Thank you so much Jane for pointing out the Giant Cuttlefish. They are so amazing to watch and swim slowly putting on a great display of colours, textures and shapes! He turned over for me today, showing his white belly, think he was feeding. (Photos Thursdays blog!)

Great pictures today! Can someone tell us where these interesting creatures are found on our way to Shelly? It would be nice to catch a glimpse of them. And does anyone out there from the outer west want to form a car pool with me? I can sometimes pick people up on the way from Springwood. Better than doing the drive on your own – allegedly someone comes from Penrith?

Lukas is giving the fish keen competition and he already has a good start in the P.C! Can’t wait to have you swimming by my side again, Lukas:-)
Hope to see everyone at the badge ceremony brekkie tomorrow! Lips is already writing his acceptance speech…. I told him he could leave out God and his parents as they haven’t done any long distance swims, but he thinks the longer the better…. should be a lovely, long brekkie if we all follow his example:-)

Great idea to have an “outer west car pool”…. could be a few other outer suburb car pools too.
We had visitors from the Blue Mts last week and are trying to encourage them to set off a little earlier next time to join us for swim, so will mention it. They thought they recognised you in the pic last week. What time do you leave home? II bet Ian & John K remember who the Penrith swimmers are.….rings a bell…. Oh, Jane’s son comes from Katoomba too!!
And stay for brekkie and introduce yourself please!

No worries, I’ve been able to cut it down to four pages now.
Ian just confirmed each badge recipient has about 10 minutes for his/her speech. Maximum of 20 minutes for those who receive two badges.
Hope everyone can follow these guidelines as we have a lot of badges to go thru. Thanks!

can I ask what camera is used for the underwater photos?

  • renae fowler

    08/03/2014 at 6:51 pm

We all generally use the Olympus tough t2. It is one of the best underwater cameras on the market.

We saw the cuttlefish just after we left shelley. You can generally find them anywhere along the rocks and weed on the left after leaving shelley anywhere up until fairybower. They are very welk camouflaged so you have to make sure you have very clear goggles. Hope this helps margot.
