Today’s dawn was heavy with the promise of a storm. Deep grey clouds hung over the horizon, with a very messy surf. Perfect conditions for the 70 swimmers who had recovered from long weekend activities to turn up today.
Some people are so keen to make sure they don’t miss the start, they sleep on the little ledge above the ramp.
And welcome back Ragnill!! So excited was Lesley to see Ragnill today, she actually requested a photo. You see, Ragnill, Lesley and Ian all began swimming with the B&B way back in the dark ages – so it was a little reunion of the ‘old timers’.
Today there was also the return of the Number 1 Photobomber, Lips. Lesley was thrilled.
Some braved the sea; others to half way; and a small group were still wondering if they should. You see the early swimmers emerged with tales of a shark sighting!! Size and type vary depending on who you asked.
The high tide and the swell made it loads of fun for both groups. Those heading to the point had the challenge of the swell with its frequent rolling waves and the rip. The half-way mob; the tide covered the lower steps while the swell sent waves crashing against the sea wall.
With water temp of 19.4 degrees, it was so good in, even if it was washing machine conditions.
The usual buzz at Shelly.
Richard without his hula hoop this week. . .
Ian wisely counseled the squad that if you are not strong and brave (like the A team), please don’t attempt the surf. Mind you, half-way was pretty wild!!
As usual, dogs, laughter and bons amis around the benches post swim.
Did you lose a bag this morning? A bag with mask, snorkel, and DVD was found in the ladies change room. See Ian if this belongs to you or someone you know.
Have a great Tuesday

Monthly Dinner – Special Guest Speaker
Bluewater Restaurant – Tuesday 14 October at 6.30 pm
October’s monthly dinner features one of our swimmers, Penny Berents, who is a marine biologist and currently a Senior Fellow at the Australian Museum Research Institute. Penny has been swimming and diving in Sydney waters for more than 40 years. Her talk will focus on the animals of Cabbage Tree Bay, both those that we see on our swims and the smaller more cryptic beasties that we don’t see but are important in the ecosystems of the Bay.
Usual deal: Dinner is only $20 a head and includes shared entrees, a selection of mains to choose (incl a vegetarian option), corkage (for byo wine only) and a little thank you for the staff. Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited, so BOOKINGS ARE ESSENTIAL: To avoid disappointment and secure your spot please BOOK HERE NOW

I dunno – a ‘lost’ bag with “mask, snorkel and DVD” sounds a bit suss to me!!
ps. please note my change of nick-name – I decided it needed ‘upgrading’ to something more classier than BUTT!
ALSO – GREAT to see Ragnill!! yep we all started around the same time AND went through our first WWW together! she’s here for a month 🙂

Reminds me of that old libertine, Gay Abandon. (note I have changed also my name after I saw Ian McK. disappear in my wake).
