If you’re into blood-red sunrises, crystal clear water, and chasing cuttlefish, then June is easily the best time of the year to swim with us. And at least 130 swimmers embraced what was hands-down the most photogenic winter morning of 2015 thus far.
This is Lips reporting for blog duty. And I’m a sucker for winter sunrises. Everyone and everything tinted in a beautiful red light..
Being hopeless at photographing marine life, I started developing an interest in swimming humans instead. And we have such an amazing variety of them here in our little swim group!
Justus getting ready..
Great to have Ed back in the water with us. Top-notch human:
Lucy and (extended) family..
Snorkels sporting new mittens and beanie:
Shaun, interim management and conman extraordinaire, ran out of pink caps. I caught him selling these green ones to unsuspecting newbies..
Everyone’s trying to get a picture with Scotty (middle), yesterday’s winner of the first leg of this year’s Winter Triple Crown:
Great photo of John Foster, bombed by JeffwithaJ:
Elizabeth:
Lovely Megan and Irish Alex, seen below clearly punching above his weight:
Drinks in red:
Walking into the blood-red sunrise – winter at its best:
Everyone on their best behavior at the point – making JK proud:
Long ridiculed, capless swimming has become a bit of a retro-trend of late. Especially in those hipster playgrounds of Fitzroy or Newtown. But here’s the original. The man who started it all.. Capless Dave:
At this point, you probably guessed it, I had to store my camera you-know-where to make my way across to Shelly.
Lucky for me, Mary was at hand to take these beautiful cuttlefish photos:
And then this one, of a giant Shaun, about to devour Tiny Tim, and Lesbubbles:
Lesbubbles reminded me of Shaun’s amazing shape-shifting abilities – please refer to Friday’s centerfold:
..which, by the way, reminded her of one of her favourite childhood toys:
Apologies, I’m digressing. Back to the swim..
Brad and Lucy enjoying an intimate moment at Shelly:
Speaking of true love, Bella and Duncan:
Allegedly, Lyndall had swum 500km:
To celebrate this milestone, she had a number of (highly staged) commemorative photos taken:
I had to excuse myself and explain to Lyndall that other swimmers wanted their photos taken too..
On the way back, I caught up with Shaun. I kindly offered to take a joint selfie to end all animosities between us. As expected, he responded graciously, by pulling down my budgies:
Back on dry land, I couldn’t help but notice this naughty pair of black rubber gloves:
Jane, radiating happiness, soaking in the sunshine:
Mariah was back – in her new wetsuit:
Lovely Roxanne and Irish Alex.. yes, still punching above his weight:
BnB fashionista Annie (right) with one of her newest projects, Paul:
Watch Paul’s transformation over the next few weeks. Exclusively on this blog.
Or simply join Annie’s dinner talk on Tuesday! Yes, due to overwhelming demand, additional tickets are now available for sale! Seats are filling fast, so please submit your reservation to buildershaun@hotmail.com or annie@anniesophia.com
John’s granddaughter Katie (right) was visiting from Wollongong:
Young at heart: Brad wearing his wetsuit ‘gangsta’ style..
Back at the benches, Lyndall was still going on about her 500km:
Elizabeth (X) pointed out that these snazzy looking reusable coffee cups are available for just $2 at Coles right now:
The (extended) De Jager family: Ted, Charlie, India, and Lainey:
The Spaniard hanging out at ‘the old blokes’ table. If you bump into him today, congratulate him on winning the 2nd leg of the Winter Triple Crown:
Sterling insisted I conclude today’s blog like this – I think he was going for Hugh Hefner:
That’s all from me for today. If you haven’t been in the water yet, go!!!
It’s a gorgeous day out there and tomorrow is forecast to be another stunner. It would be rude not to swim, and you know it.
Signing off,
Lips

Lovely swim today. Mariah found a huge wobby in the shallows, I mean this one was huge. It looked pregnant – Jane do you know if it’s the season? Will we have baby wobbygongs galore?

Great blog Rynar…you always make us laugh. I was thinking that Shaun centrefold photo hadn’t quite had its day yet and yep, there it was again! Lots of us on the DrinkieEx saw 5 cuttlefish fish and 1 massive ray.. the numbers of cuttlefish and size of ray were rapidly increasing by the time the 7’oclocks had come in…I think double figures were at last count…
