06/05/12 – A social coffee drinking group with a swimming addiction

130 ocean swimming aficionados in the Sunday sunshine

Ok folks, let’s start today with the REAL reason we’re dragging ourselves out of toasty beds early every morning, namely the post-swim coffee. We are now so many needing a caffeine fix, we are occupying all of Manly’s breakfast venues.

Soaking up the early rays, here’s the friendliest corn on the cob/chestnut griller in Manly, the lovely George whose stall is a fundraising venture for the lifesaving club. Isn’t he beautiful!? Special prize for the person who gets George to swim with us.

Another stunning morning, and yet again the B&B swimmers are the preferred subjects for this photography class. The sets were reasonably big but predictable this morning, making for a fun start and finish to our swim.

Submarine mammals everywhere!

Friendly faces at Shelly Beach tumbleturn point. Hey mate, long time no see. And how’s the family?

More marine creatures! A kingfish chasing the yellowtail scads in the first pic and a school of silver sweep in the second. Mermaid spotted in the third pic.

Linda and fellow mermaids practising their synchronized swimming routine. Just a few more sessions, girls, and you’ve got it nailed. Way to go!

This timid girl just discovered she has a voice. Bless her little cottonsocks as she practices the Mexican wave with fellow amigas. Ay, caramba, Lori, corazon mio!

Look who we found in the surf as we came in! Our wonderful B&B swimmer Greg who today decided to make the most of the fantastic waves. Can’t blame you, Greg, and by the measure of your smile you were enjoying every moment of it. Isabel is another one who can’t wipe a smile off her face 🙂

This delightful family photo was taken yesterday morning, but somehow fell out of the camera. We are so glad to have Thor and Elizabeth back in Manly with their fast-growing girls. Won’t be long before the whole family is swimming with the B&B.

Breaking news from Lake Argyle!

In a most unusual and unfortunate turn of events, the entire Lake Argyle has been emptied of water after a group of feisty Manly men in pink speedos swam so fast the wake washed all the water out of the dam. As yet there are no reports of the culprits’ whereabouts, but a Manly-based collaborator who goes under the fictional name of Nicole Piha, sent us these details:

20km: Iain – 6.25, James – 6.46, Brendan and Stephen duo – 7.40

10km: Cae finished third! Gaetan also finished the 10km, and wearing fins so different classification (‘social’ swimmer… who’d have thought, eh?)

More details and hopefully photos to come tomorrow when Lesley is back at the blog helm 🙂

Water Temperature: 21.4 degrees Celsius

News from byron! Classic cancelled due to humungous waves but Gab and Heidi and Derek D decided to go ahead and do it anyway, what legends! I did the children’s swim and had to be rescued by a rubber ducky! Heehee…it’s true! Izzy got swept away at the start, the rip was so strong! But she survived… 🙂

I’ve heard that you rather fancied the rubber ducky Captain Lesley, so opted to get rescued!
Well done Lake Argyle and Byron Bay swimmers. Great times for the guys up North. I expect you Byron Bay swimmers are now rehydrating at The Rails or Beach Hotel. Remember the performance poetry session at The Rails. I’ve heard Izzy is going to perform!
I hope I can get George the sweetcorn seller to swim with us, wonder what the prize will be…
Loved swimming with Alyson this morning, back after a bout of sickness. Mr Football was incredibly quiet this morning, wonder why?
    Have a great Sunday folks!
