Where were all you swimmers this morning, some of who have been grumbling about the swim being crowded??!! Β It was big, beautiful, bouncy, exciting, dull, grey, cold but quiet today! You don’t know what you missed! Not scared of getting wet I hope π
Dangerous surf conditions so we all walked around to Fairy Bower…Most of us opting for a Shelly to the Point swim and back.
One of our almost original swimmers John, opted to go for a body surf (without his pink cap).
The ‘Old and Bold’ were training as usual. Their colour brightening up the bay.
And here are the motley crew that turned up today! Jenny on the left who loves being tossed around in ‘the vim and vigorous surf’ as she put it! Martin came ‘because my alarm went.’ Melisse staggered down the hill out of habit. Alan was really excited about easily getting a hook for his bag. 17 year old Courtney dragged her parents along from Castle Hill as she’s triathlon training for the World Titles in Mexico and says it’s so much more exciting than pool training. And Ted came because his wife was blogging so he had to… (Just joking, he loves it in the rain!!)
The walk of pride today as we were among the small bunch that turned up!
Richard did a Triple today as he shows with his fingers, (of Fairy Bower pool;-)Β
Al, Brian, Rusty and John
John Bond takes the temperature at Shelly for a change… 20.3
A bit of blog tarting. No Lips around today π
Henrietta is having so much fun!Just look at that smile.
Β Ken and Shelly ‘kind of’ did a Double. In at half way, out to the Point, rocks, Shelly and back again! Well done guys!
A photo of Silky again because 2 years ago today he came back to swim with us the second day in a row!
To prove how much Silky sought out human interaction, you can clearly see on the photo above how he nuzzles up to Helen!

Summer Badges
There are now three badges available for those swimming in summer:
# 1: Saturday 5 December kicked off the 6 km summer badge swims. These are on every Saturday during summer.
# 2: There is one 10 km swim in December, February and March 2015/16. The first 10 km swim was on Saturday 12 December. Watch the blog for details of the second 10 km swim, to be held in February.
# 3: Our new badge, the Shelly Triple, involves a triple lap of Cabbage Tree Bay (i.e. swim to Shelly Beach and back to The Point three times – total 3.5 km). This swim can be completed any day and should be logged on the i-log system. Since this is designed for those who are unable (or unwilling) to do the longer swims, this badge is only available to those who haven’t completed a 6 km or 10 km swim during the season.

Really important with the big waves we’ve had recently! Staying safe
Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

Oops sorry, of course it’s Greg. Well, he should be flattered I’m getting his name mixed up with our Chief Fireman swimmer!
Talking of things that kill more people each year than sharks, Martin was telling me today that he had a vending machine business at one time. I read that they are also responsible for more deaths than sharks! It would be even harder to imagine how vending machines would kill sharks Julia π

Great blog I was swimming at bendalong on my own for the 14th day in a row this morning and it was beautiful glassy and cool with a nice crisp wave. Pam burridge had 17 beginners learning to surf in the rain. See you tomorrow π

Well done for blogging Lainey and for just being there ! Not afraid of getting wet but cautious about big swells and stormwater crap after all this rain sending rubbish gushing down every street. See you on Friday – I think
