04/11/2013 – Not the usual Monday blog

November 4, 20137

So if you have logged on for your weekly dose of Robbie’s acerbic start to the week – you will have to come back tomorrow…

This morning 103 swimmers denied the existence of Mondayitis as they took to the water.  The point was calling us to the daily ritual.

Comprising insomniacs or those who need to get to work early or just avoiding the crowds, the Dinks Express is attracting more and more swimmers!

Catching up with friends is the best way to ward of any Monday blues.  Sarah has found that eggs are a good way to make friends.

And how could you be miserable when greeted by these cheery souls?

At brisk 19.2 in the water, it was actually better in than out! The air temperature was 14 degrees but cooler with a nasty wind chill which was not all that welcome as we waited in various stages of undress for the 7am call.

The weather report was warning of dangerous surf and suggesting the avoidance of swimming and rock fishing!!  The horizon showed signs of serious surf, plus returning Bolderdashians reported scary, large surf at Queenscliff.  However, in our safe corner all was calm.

Excitement was created by the appearance of a Ray darting beneath us just before the point!

The crossing was uneventful but a fast one!  The Shelly turnaround was so quick, that Ian had hardly finished uttering the Let’s Go before everyone was off…

I have to confess it was chilly in the breeze.  Visibility was not fabulous, but I did manage to find these little guys having fun feeding around the rocks at Shelly.

By any chance have you lost your GoPro on a swim?  Perhaps near the rocks?  If so, it was found today and handed into Ian, the keeper of lost property.  If you can contact Ian with details of the model, etc. he will let you know if this is your camera.

Also, as we are about to enter Summer Badge season, it is proposed that the first 10km swim could be held on 14 December.  Watch this space or share your view with John Bond.  He is making sure that the swim does not conflict with other events.

Have a great day and all the best with the three legged horses tomorrow

Tarting about

This morning Arabella, Annie and Lesley at the launch of new morning show on channel 10! They even managed to get the presenter James Mathison!

Spotted on the Sydney to Gong ride yesterday!  Looks remarkably like our lovely Snorkels don’t you think?

Sparkles aka Michelle Sparkes is organising a Clean Up Cabbage Tree Bay Swim.  This foraging swim is being held to reduce the rubbish in the Bay.  The aim is to protect the marine life from ingesting or becoming tangled in nasty plastic. Plus there is a potential reward.

Be the swimmer who stuffs their cossie with the most to win a night at the gorgeous Whale Beach Bed and Breakfast! Watch this space for further details .

Staying safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly!  While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits.  Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf.  To read, or even download, click here.

Bold and Beautiful Swim School

Sarah Anne Evans, B&B’s official Pacific Jules swim coach, has organised a group swim school at Shelley Beach for any willing B&B swimmers who want to improve their style. The cost is $30 and it’s limited to 15 people. During the 90 minute session Sarah Anne and Warren Evans will be covering how to swim with more efficiency, flow and speed! If the water is clear and calm enough they will film each person for feedback after the session via email.

The latest date available for the B&B Swim School is 21st December.

(This will be the last swim school for the year. More next year. Schools on 30 November and 14 December are both full)

If you would like to book in you should call or email Sarah Anne and you will be sent further information, including the date, time and payment details. Phone  0420 923 067  or email info@pacificjules.com.au

    Very entertaining blog today Mary.
Love how you have managed to capture so many people in the group – it shows perfectly how inclusive and varied we all are.
The (eagle?) ray was great to watch.

Great blog Mary! It was certainly chilly in the wind this morning, but wonderful under the water. I’ve enjoyed seeing all the teensy baby fishlets in the water – I guess it shows how healthy our bay is!
