What a stunner of a morning it was again today! 171 Bold and Beautiful swimmers on a sunny, bright day when the water was calm, cool but incredibly clear! I knew it was going to be a great swim when a few metres from the beach I came across a flathead who smiled at me!
Storchy’s Booty Camp warmed up a few swimmers ready for the 16.9 degree water. Storchy had advertised a special today, a free session for bikini clad ladies and sluggo clad men. Sorry Storchy everyone wore clothes (except for you.) His ‘2 for 1’ special is still on by the way so get in quick. (It’s free anyway!) This is John Storch before he started his Boot Camps (and before he had his hair colouring disasters.) Taken a few months ago.
This is him today, looking more like the Commando inflicting punishment on his troops!
About 40 swimmers left at 6.30am with The Drinks Express and a few with the Fifi Lemur run at 6am making the most of the light mornings.
Our favourite swimming family, Jess, Laura and Mark Allen.
The water isn’t that cold Patrick! If Michael Christie was still here we know what he would be saying. (HTFU!!!)
After the flathead smiled a few mullet came by to say Hello…
And the pipefish were there too and I hadn’t even got to The Point!
John and Sophie showing how clear the water was today.
I kept close to the rocks and the yellowtail are back!
It’s always special seeing a blue groper!
The crimson banded wrasse and leatherjackets were there again today too.
The ‘Let’s Go’ from The Point.
Did my usual get out at Halfway and run around to Shelly.
This lovely lady Katie, has just arrived in Manly from Ireland. She was walking past the Surf Club and got dragged in for a swim with us! I think she’ll be back! Kara and Tristan pulling their funny faces in next one down!
It was Sarah’s birthday today. Happy Birthday Sarah!
Lots of happy folk at Shelly!
And gorgeous porgeous Chris Taylor is back from his holiday swimming between islands in Croatia and Greece. ‘But you don’t see any fish there!’ he lamented, ‘Not like here in Cabbage Tree Bay’. Further proof we swim in the most beautiful aquatic paradise where you never know what you will come across!
Patrick, Lesbubbles and John get left behind at Shelly.
My hubby Ted, doing his push ups to keep warm.
Now for some ‘Catches of The Day’! I’m sorry gents they are mainly men. Think the ladies are a bit shy and modest. First up lovely Andrew Maher from Light Touch Chiropractic!
These ladies weren’t consulted but I think 2 are single!!
Dan’s mates put him forward for ‘Catch of the Day’. (He’s in the middle)
Terry and Woody were up for it too!
And so were Ed and Richard. Single ladeez there’s a lot of choice here!
What a smile Stirling! (Loved those jazzy sluggos too!)
Had to include some of my photos from Friday…so excited to spot a huge wobbegong swimming gracefully off Shelly. Here are my pics of it being chased by Sparkles!
A great night was had at Bluewater Cafe last night when the new attendance app was launched.
But please come TONIGHT to this great night at The Wooloomooloo Bay Hotel!!!
A Fantastic Ocean Swimming Story Telling night tonight!
One of our swimmers, Lizzie Crowhust, has organised a fantastic night of storytelling around ocean swimming, TONIGHT Wednesday October 2nd. It is at TheWooloomooloo Bay Hotel and sounds such a fun night and is a fundraiser for Can Too. Good old Nick the Blogger has agreed to do his bit regaling the audience with tales of the B&B swims. We really should go and support him and have a fun night. There are loads of others from the swimerazzi including Paul Ellercamp, Surf Muppetetc. Click on the link here to find out more and buy tickets and raise money for cancer research at same time!

Great blog Elaine! Love those pictures of Sparkles stalking the Wobbegong from last Friday!
Stephen, well done on the new ‘iswimmtoo’ ticking app. Little Sarah had one question though:
When travelling in Mainland China, many services such as Facebook, Google+, or iSwimmToo are blocked. If that’s the case, would she have to go via secure proxy or VPN to record her attendance?
Also, Shaun was asking, if you sleep through the alarm and log on after 9am, is there still a way to tick via the app? Or does he still have to pester Ian?

Fab fish pics Lainey-Loo. Strangely, though you would swear those elongated fish are Pipefishes (family Sygnathidae, which also contains the Seahorses), they are actually Flutemouths, from the family Fistulariidae. One of the main ID features is the extremely long filament extending from the end of their body. You can see these in your lovely photo. If disturbed they suddenly acquire dark bars all along their body!
They swim in a wavy fashion a bit like Eels and Catfishes. They have amazing diamond-shaped eyes, which show up in some of Nick’s pics a week or so ago. Very odd creatures!

Great job Elaine, such sparkly
Images
I spent ages in the water as you know getting some pics, but wow how crap they were.
I am needing a volunteer tomorrow or Saturday to take pics or be photographed just at the point. Anyone who can point and shoot can be photographer, or any female who can swim reasonably without flippers while wearing clothes. 15-20 minutes max, probably at 6.30 but time negotiable. Anyone interested please text me 0408861399 or leave a comment here.

Gee, I was just discussing the Flutemouths with Binsey over a Skinny Chai Latte this morning. I thought Pipefish, Binsey said no definitely Flutemouths. Something to do with the extremely long filament extending from the end of their body?
Binsey said he’s seen heaps whilst on the Steve Irwin with Sea Shepherd running interference with the Japanese Whalers. This of course after his saving the Sumatran Tiger from extinction by his patented hand insemination techniques developed on the cute little also endangered wild eyed Lemurs.
Binsey said its a common mistake amongst the general public and that he himself got confused once during his final exam for his Marine Biologist Masters at Rob Binsey Wing at Sydney University. Thankfully though he came to his senses and scored a perfect 100% (the first perfect result for anyone doing this Marine Biologist Masters Degree!
Go Binsey! you honour us with your knowledge.

I suspect they are called Flutemouths because they have an extremely long snout with a very small mouth at the end – just like a flute!

Hi Guys, beautiful clear swim this morning. I did sign in, but for some reason I don’t show up today on the daily attendance. I’m not too worried about that, but I DON’T want to be ripped off a swim on the challenge!!! (need every one I can get, im in the lower section!) Is there a procedure to rectify this? Thanks, from a keen, but unfortunately not so regular as some, BnB swimmer.

Wow John, you really are a fast swimmer if you can run booty camp, swim for some photos at the point and be back on the beach before anyone blinks. And dry your hair as well. Skills!

Actually Stephen, DO NOT listen to Lippy.
It doesn’t take much to work out that the HKTQ will be loosing out big time with this new app. Turnover for the illegal tick will be down substantially and starting to cramp on the Lippy percentage take.
Well done Stephen for making the non attendance tick legal!!
In a round about way this helps the integrity police to eliminate the black market and bring down this evil empire.

What an amazing change of heart!
Are you implying the Integrity Police is pushing for legalization, now that its self-proclaimed war on illegal ticking has failed? Or do I sense an ulterior motive?
I believe the people of Australia have a right to know how many of your 663k have been accumulated via illegal ticking, Mr DWTG.
Come clean!

Oh PPLLEassseee Lippy and imposter Shaun
After taking out the Triad Queen’s evil empire, I would then dedicate my life to checking monitoring and patrolling.
Further to your scurrilous accusations.
Every single tick was legitimate!! I was present every time!!
I swam every single time Storchy ticked when I wasn’t there!
How dare you imply I would not make it to the point!
