02/07/13 – The lexicon of winter swimming

02/07/201311

There are some words that winter swimmers really don’t want to use –
although they may be thinking them.  Cold
and freezing are two.  Delightfully they
were not on the list for today as the weather and waves were welcoming.

Relief embraced us.  Just look at
these guys – totally chilled.

Winter swimmers are considerate.
Paige exhibits this by lending a hand to access that spot that is just
out of reach. . .

For today’s 121 swimmers, ‘sleeping in’ was off the list.  Glorious sunshine greeted the gathering
squad.

Surprise appears in many forms.
Firstly that there are so many swimmers, and secondly because at 18.5
degrees it is surprisingly warm.

Celebration appears today as we congratulate Tharl on his 21st
birthday.

Silliness is always
around.  Some people just can’t help themselves.

The blue gropers were out and about.
This one was spotted just off Shelly, but there were others around the
point.

Wetsuits are discarded soon after the swim.  It’s still really warm!!

For your Diary

Staying safe

With the return of the winter swell, remember that there are no badges
for scaring yourself silly!  While it is
great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits.  Do read these excellent tips on staying safe
in the surf.  To read, or even download, click here.

And of course the the BADGE!!  We are in week 6 of the winter challenge.

I just want to say a big THANK YOU to Simon from Bluewater. I had a bit of a mini meltdown when that big set came through this morning, and he swam with me back in.
I’m sure I ruined your fun of catching the waves in – so thank you very much.
