02/06/13 – W is for…..

02/06/201317

… Wet! What a difference a day makes! Wild weather woke us this morning but 113 swimmers got out of bed, spurred on by the ‘W’ effect.

Here we are ….Waiting under what little shelter we can find.

One Newbie joined us …..Well done!

“What’s going on here?” Brenton handing a note over to ‘The Management’. Something to do with trying to buy a W?

Phew….no, it’s ok….he was only buying some ‘special cream’!

Whoops! Drinky caught in the act!

So…..you want a W too? Michelle shows us how not to do it….and Peter gets it right (or write?!) .If you are swimming in Winter without a Wetsuit ….replace your tick for a W and after 20 swims without one (over 7 different weeks) You’ll qualify for a WWW badge. Simple!

Winning smiles from our swimmers this morning.

With and Without Wetsuit Wearers join together to get Wet.
At 7am this was the view …50% heading off and ….

50% were still huddled under the shelter. “Come on guys…time to get Wet”

W is for Waves

W is for wet weather

W is for Waiting at Shelly

W is for Workouts

Brucy managed a joint ‘Lets Go!’

W is also for Whales …if you swim in Winter you may see one!Err this wasnt today!

W is for Wildlife. I was lucky enough to see two Port Jackson sharks today, hanging out with the Duskies.

So what is W also for? The WINTER BADGE – We are in Winter!.\ To qualify swim minimum 20 times and in at least 7 weeks of the Winter. Each week starts on a Monday and there are 14 Weeks in the season.

That’s Why Wwwwwone Hundred and Wwwwwwwthirteen people turned up today!

Enjoy the Wine Festival in Manly today too.

******

There is a NEW BADGE – the 500 km badge! See the Pacific Challenge top left of the blog to see how many km’s you’ve swum – if you’ve hit 500 or more you get a badge….(for $10)

33 people so far have already qualified for their badge – they will be presented at our NEXT monthly dinner at Bluewater –Tuesday 4th June at 6.30pm (or any time after that night). See the “management” for more details!

******

ALSO at the above dinner one of our swimmers Dr Ray Hodgson will be giving a talk about the work he does in Nepal with women who suffer prolapse after child birth. He organises trips for volunteers for 2 week stints and is always looking out for more volunteers to go to Nepal and help. If you want to hear from someone who is making a difference to peoples lives and want to find out what you can do to help, then come along to the dinner.

TO BOOK INTO THE DINNER PLEASE RSVP HERE!!

We want to get as MANY people as we can that night so we can book the whole restaurant out!!!! Remember it’s only $20 for a starter AND main course of delicious food!! Desserts and drinks are only $5 each and no corkage on wine!! Bluwater now offer a special $25 menu too.

Clever blog Snorkles! I forgot to put a ‘w’ instead of a tick until Ian reminded me! It was a miserable morning but I bet not one of us regrets getting up for the swim! Bluewater dinner on Tuesday is filling up and is going to be a great night so book in today or you could be disappointed. It only holds 110.

Oh Annie, Sarah, Jon – you poor things – sitting around in the lap of luxury with all that sun, but just pools to swim in… my heart bleeds for you over there. Hurry back! We miss you… but I’m sure you’ll make the most of what you’ve got. Play it again and send more – it worked really well.

Thx, Jenny! We had fun making it – great acting on Annie’s part! She’s in great form. We were relaxing after an afternoon of Buddhist discussion with our Thai friends.
A great 25m pool with warm water – not a substitue, but really good for drill and stroke work!
Off to the countryside with Annie and friends tomorrow.

It may be winter with you but in England we’re very envious of 20 deg C water temperatures! Compare River Thames just below 15 today, my local training lake around the same, and the sea around our coasts is, I believe, still around 10 to (if you’re lucky) 12. Keep up the great swimming and the great blogs which I still read with interest. Hope to see you all again some day…..
