02/05/2012 – Rip and Chop!

02/05/20127

Over 104 Bold and Beautiful swimmers

Nice and choppy this morning – with a rip and roller coaster waves to take us out to the point!  The water is still fairly warm at 21.0 and the air temp was around 14.2.

The rip on the beach is so wide at the moment that we are having to come in (on return) a lot further up the beach – well at least I hope you all are! Otherwise it will be a struggle, an extra big workout you may not have been expecting.

Everyone making sure Michael hasn’t ticked! 😉 Lots of people today – not bad for a Wednesday!

Brendan came down to say goodbye before he heads to the airport, Billy keeping an eye on things!

John pointing to where we need to come back in! Nice biggish waves to greet us on way out!!

The swim over to Shelly was fairly bumpy too, visibility was less than it has been but still ok.  I didn’t make it in time to Shelly to take a photo!!

E-laine just making it to Shelly too just as everyone took off!

A few of us headed back to Half way and the rest went in by the beach

Up the steps at half way. Having a rest in the sun..best way to warm up! The beach arrival…

Billy supervising the showers…

ALL in all another lovely and fun swim with the Bold and Beautiful! 😉

Bold and Beautiful Extra News

Apparently some Bold and Beautiful swimmers are bringing in their own food into Manly Wine after the swim!

Cake for someones birthday is not a problem but your own snacks and breakfast is not acceptable.  If you must eat it then please eat it outside (as in, not on the premises).  Manly Wine give a heavily discounted breakfast especially for us, and also one evening a month they provide free drinks and food for Bold and Beautiful swimmers to enjoy (and great service) as we had last week on Anzac evening.  So please from now on only eat food at Manly Wine that has come from their kitchen! Thanks! 🙂

A few of us are going to Byron Bay this weekend for the Byron Bay Ocean Swim Classic.  Heidi James, Gab Stokes and myself (Lesley) are going, is anyone else?

And of course another group are off to Lake Argyle – The swimmers will be keeping us updated on the blog!

Below photo are B & B swimmers: Graham Kent (in B & B cap), David Walton & Hamish Shearer who all competed in the event below in Port Villa on Saturday 28 May 2012.  In the background is Iririki Island, the venue for a 3.2 k swim on 9 June 2012.
The Vanuatu Swim group is starting to grow – no wonder given the fantastic location. It was a great way to finish off our two weeks of work with local police.

Swim Vanuatu – Bred Bank 2.2 k classic 28 May 2012

Les-ley, I was quicker to Shelly today I’ll have you know (with my fins of course!) Did anyone see me bowled back to the beach by a wave as we set off today, as I was marching backwards in my fins? Must have looked quite funny!
What a beautiful day it was today and I like a bit of surf. Thanks for another great blog Les-ley. Good luck to Lake Argylle swimmers and Byron Bay swimmers at the weekend. Izzy has gone up to BB and may even perfom at Performance Poetry at The Rails Hotel on Sunday afternoon!
    Happy swimming everyone!

For those of us missing out on Byron Bay this year, we’ve decided to do “Byron in Manly” instead. So this means a lot of hanging out in the Crystal shop at the Corso. Yoga. Massage. COffe, wine and raw food (please advise where to source the latter). Live music? Meditation? And of course swimming (with giant turtles – it will happen)!
Namaste, peace, love and just the right amount of commercialism 🙂

I love the bubbles too, Lesley! We know all the Argyle and BB swimmers will fly the B&B banner in style:)
Elaine, glad to hear I wasn’t the only one struggling at the start – I managed to lose not one, but two fins as I was wading out, managed to retrieve them and then had to go back to the start to put them on again. Spent the rest of the swim clinging on to them with my toes. I think fin-less is easier!!
Anna, how about we start collecting seaweeds and see if we can live really simply on it for the weekend? Just what I need after all those birthday cakes! (Mind you, so glad the cake is not banned – we can survive without the sausage rolls in the lovely pic:-))
