01/12/13 Rubbish in a blog? No way!

01/12/201317

Today, 240 people turned up with big massive hearts! Ready to love our ocean.

This is Manly’s 20th ocean care day! Lovely Sparkles is here ready to pick up any rubbish she finds as she swims.

Cabbage Tree Bay was eventually agreed as ano-take reservein 2002, which means that since the Bold&Beautiful were established we’ve been able to enjoy and reap the benefits of the no fishing and no taking rules.

But, today, we are allowed to take…..we are taking away our rubbish!

The next few pics are from Harbour side ….as you can see all sorts washes up here!

John and Ian will be away over the Christmas break, so they are looking for volunteers to help out with the important jobs that keep the B&B running. Here’s JK supervising the taking of the water temperature….an important daily feature and one that can make a difference between ‘to don wetsuit or not?’

Birthday cuddles for Liz Jones. Happy Birthday Liz.

A newbie (?) rushing to get in with the 6:59’ers!

Morning smiles and coffees (in recyclable containers yay!)

Black is back for Summer 13….as these fine models all display their summer rashies with style.

Rusty showing off…..err, well anyway….

More rubbish collectors.

…and errr, stockings to carry, errr, well carry ‘stuff’ in

No end of rubbish gets washed into our oceans and today, we are giving back to nature and clearing up some of the mess that ends up contaminating our favourite part of the world.

Today acts a gentle reminder to us too, whilst our Blue Groper’s may act as large puppy dogs, following us around or the Wobbygong shark may lay very still on the bottom posing for pics, touching our marine life is a big no-no.

Here are some of today’s underwater favourites.

Spot the flathead

Two swimming catfish

At Shelly, plenty of discussions occurred about the jellyfish (which I hadn’t seen at all, on the way to the beach !)

Oops! Here they are …check out the fish hiding in this one’s tentacles.

Sadly, I didn’t make it back in time for a pic go our pile of rubbish, but gladly apparently the pile was very small…which means there wasn’t much to pick up! A good thing.

Have a good Sunday and thanks for caring.

Remember XMAS Party on Tuesday!!! Tickets nearly gone. Jump onto the website to secure your spot!,

Sorry to miss you Snorkles, but see the Jellies were busy out-Blog Tarting everyone! Good job!
Went the other direction early and had a perfect boldercrawl. Thanks to Jon, Bernard & Monika for the good company! Not a spec of rubbish and no jellyfish.
Got back just after everyone left, so time to change slowly and a chair waiting for me at Manly Wine:-) AND I’ve helped ‘encourage’ another Blogger to your weekend support team!

    Rainer,
The German Rum and Raisin chocolate was delicious 🙂
I looked for you after sitting waiting, waiting, waiting at the seat of wisdom and finally had to rescue the chocolate from the elements, it was melting, and shared it with all at the table.
You would have loved it 🙂 🙂

Such a nice swim untill I bumped into a jellyfish one stroke before arriving at shelley. All good now, thanks Leslie. Can still feel it but rash is already going down. Can’t believe though it got me in my face, neck, arms and bum at the same time. Thx for looking after me Rainer, Sharon and others. SEe you all tomorrow (I’ll be wearing a long sleeved rashie).

Thanks Bill. Relieved to hear you ‘took care’ of the chocolate situation.
Apopogies for standing you up. Escorted badly stung Marije back to Halfway and had to run straight back home to get ready for Nippers.
I’d say the choclate was in an interesting state after swimming 1.5k with it stuffed down your budgies. Cant believe I missed out on that treat!!

Yes, great job Veena! For some of us, that first crossing is HUGE!

It would have to be a Monday-boot-camp-tea-bag-dip blog, if Shaun were to do it….. could be exciting with reports of who got out where and who cut a corner here and there. Actually, would be full of good humour for sure!

I swear I can still smell lavender even though I’ve had 2 showers and a dip in the ocean since. It did work though as I have no swelling/rash anymore on my neck and face. Just got some marks on my arms.
