01/11/2012 – Cracking Good Start

01/11/201233

115 Bold & Beautiful swimmers

A cracker of a morning, in fact it’s so sparkly you could be mistaken for thinking it’s fireworks day today… not quite, a couple more days to go.

There’s a definite inshore trough happening at the moment.  Check out all the heads low to the water, then further out to sea they’re standing tall, walking again.

It was great to see Peter E from Dubbo this morning, he’s in the city for one night and got the ferry over especially to swim with us.  He might have forgotten his pink cap

but he’s true pink through and through

There were a few lone pointers at the point this morning, the rest of the pink must have got caught in the drift… 😉 remember a good way to mark the point, so we all start together, is if you can see the blue roof of the surf club in the southern corner of the beach you’ve pretty much ‘got the point’ 🙂

Gorgeous conditions.  Warm, warm and warm !  Very happy 🙂

Anything you can do…

We can do better…

The water could be a bit clearer, it certainly would make for more spectacular photographs.  There’s a large school of small fish there, honest.

A lovely little wave to play in on the way back

If you thought you were happy when you arrived for the swim

You won’t know yourself for happiness after the swim 🙂

15 swimmers enjoyed a superb Bolderdash up to Queensie and back at 5.50am, ~12 did an early lap of Shelly at 6.30 and 6 did a double lap afterwards, totalling up a juicy 6km for some swimmers and all before breakfast 🙂

47 individual swimmers have done a Bolderdash at least once since we launched it as part of the Pacific Challenge for this season only 4 mornings ago !!!  Pretty damn impressive hey !!  Remember it counts 7 mornings a week now 🙂

Thanks to everyone who waited for us at queensie…oh wait…they DIDN’T!! Sarah u were clearly faster than me yesterday coz they waited for you! Hahahaha

We DID wait for you Lesley, and wait, and wait… Started getting a bit chilly! Sorry, we’ll agree a staged approach that works for everyone OK? Glad you had some company, you were looking good when I bumped into you early on!

Great conditions for the 5:50 swim, with both the moon and the sun visible at the start
Well done Chris K and John F, we were the only three to complete the Boulderdash and the 7am swims today.

ha ha …I don’t blame u not for waiting – I was soooo far behind and the moment you stop the cold sets in!!
It was amazing out there and i was NOT one bit cold!! mind you i was putting in ALL i had while Chris did a leisurely back stroke! 😀

You are so brave Lesley, no fins, wetsuit or slowies to keep you company. I think there will have to be a Bolderdash and Boldercrawl! A few of us are crawling next Tuesday if anyone is interested. There might be myself, Aly, Retha, Nicky, Annie, Michelle (Speedy Sparkles) and maybe Rainer and Rob as our shark guards??

Lesley, happy to help if you’re looking for a super slow buddy for the bolderdash. With Little Sarah in HK, I’m currently shopping around for someone who appreciates sunrises and small talk on the way to Queensie.
But be warned, we’re talking very slow. You better cancel any early lunch appointments on the day… 🙂

    01/11/2012 at 2:21 pm

    Count me in!
Don’t think Rob is quite ready for the bolderdash yet… 🙂

wow, Chris K, you are in such demand as a swimming companion!. You’ll have to keep a roster…Lesley, are you boldering tomorrow? 🙂

    01/11/2012 at 3:26 pm

it was very cruel – poor Chris! AS much as i would love to Bolder tomorrow – i need to know if the various “slow crew’ will be there…and Fifi u are defo not on my list!
    :-)))

Lesley, Retha has really long flippers (sorry Retha) and sometimes a wettie. But I don’t want a level, playing field I want to keep my short flippers! (Might do wetsuit boldercrawl and Shelly with wetsuit and one short flipper Tuesday!)

Sorry Lesley, I wish I had stayed with you guys but I had to take the bus at 7:30 this morning! I’d swim slower with Rainer and you tomorrow if you guys are up for Bolderdash.
Following up on Rainer’s suggestion, I don’t mind taking my time and I do enjoy the sunrise but I’d rather not stop as I enjoy as much the state of mind regular breathing puts me into.

  • François Pradel

    01/11/2012 at 4:28 pm

Congrats! Did you all three go for a double as well?
I wish I had more time this morning. The water temperature is definitely rising, I hardly felt cold after the Bolderdash.

  • lesley

    01/11/2012 at 4:50 pm

Thanks Rainer – i will be doing interviews next weeks to fill the position!!

  • lesley

    01/11/2012 at 4:51 pm

ha ha taking your time!?! I was giving it EVERYTHING! Ask Chris!! :-DD

  • François Pradel

    01/11/2012 at 5:07 pm

Haha fair enough! Pardon my language and please replace “taking my time” by “swimming a bit slower” 😉 I am not that fast and definitely do not belong to the ‘elite’ group!

  • John

    01/11/2012 at 5:23 pm

I was the only one of the three desperate enough to do the double.

  • Rob Byrne

    01/11/2012 at 5:51 pm

reverse psychology eh? Damn u Rainer!

  • Liz Jones

    01/11/2012 at 7:55 pm

  • fifi

    01/11/2012 at 8:04 pm

Sterch, are you REALLY going to wait for me? Or are you cruelly raising my hopes? I shall be there waiting for you to stand me up.
anyway, you ALL need me on Bolderdash in order to take all the stings for everyone. I still have a few patches of skin without red scribble on them somewhere…

  • fifi

    01/11/2012 at 8:05 pm

elaine, won’t that make you go around in circles?

Oh how weird. I just went to change your birthday to 1st December but alas that’s already when I have your birthday in my calendar. Yours and Dave Thomas alike. Clearly it’s not my trusty diary I need to adjust…

Lesley ,it was my pleasure to swim with you today .you put a monster effort in with every stroke. On the way back from queensie you were definetly going much quicker , had the swim been a bit longer I’m sure that we would have caught them up …………next time hey. !!!!!!!!!!!
