01/07/2012 – Long Distance Swimmers

01/07/20127

93 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

Yeh !!  How exciting, it’s swim time again 🙂

Every morning is always so much fun, sometimes all the good times just blur into one…

There was a small slither of golden crust on the horizon as we gathered at the point this morning.

With a little wave in shore but a lovely calm swim across the bay, making for beautiful swimming conditions, well apart from those few lingering pesky jimbles.

Time for Lindsay to give her Dad a quick wave from Shelly as he was following us along the walkway.

These guys give long distance swimming a whole new meaning…. Brian and Jen drive from Gladsville, Alison from Asquith and Annette H all the way from Winmalee, near Springwood in the Blue Mountains !!  Now that’s what I call dedication 🙂

Do you reckon these guys kept up their synchronised kick all the way back to Manly ?  Where we were joined by 3 big random waves before the sea just totally settled.

It’s quite clear in the shallower water as you can see form this photo of the mutli-coloured trio hanging out on the rocks

A few swimmers enjoyed a stretch out up to Freshie and back while 11 others continued on for the double.

Ben Hutt and Collie Kinsela are still out there doing multiple laps as both of them are well into their training for their up coming Solo English Channel Swims which is why we don’t get to enjoy their company at brekkie very often these days.  They are doing some amazing distance in these somewhat chilly conditions, some of which is taking its toll, but nothing that’s going to stop them as they are both so determined.

Collie is going to swim the English Channel around 10th Sept for the second time !!  Collie’s first crossing he completed successfully in 16hrs 28mins in bitterly cold conditions, the only person to finish out of ~10 swimmers who set off that day, but it did come at a cost resulting in shoulder surgery.   Fingers crossed it will be an all round much more pleasant experience for Collie this time.

Ben will be embarking on his first crossing around 23rd Sept and I’m sure he will nail it if his performance last weekend is anything to go by, with an 8 hour swim in 15 degree water where we hear his stroke was only seeming to improve as he just lapped up the distance.  If you’d like to read more about Ben’s channel training or donate to his chosen charity, Opportunity International Australia, please click here

Happy birthday to Nick Dawkins today 🙂

Michael Edenborough just messaged to say he completed the Gold Coast Marathon this morning in 3:38:41 – a 36min personal best !!!  Fantastic effort Michael, well done. Michael’s gonna give the extra swimming the credit for his cracker of a time 🙂  He hasn’t bumped in to any other B&Bs up there but there probably are some… let us know how you went if you were up there too ??

Good luck to all the guys and girls in the tough chick / bloke challenge this weekend… photos please 😉

Thank you to the male swimmer who rescued my ski before it took off on its own probable path to the rocks this morning. I was very lucky indeed.
    Many many thanks

Also, I lost my footless tights this morning. Black, extra large. Did anybody find them? I returned but they were gone.

Only there on weekends fi fi, live to far away. You lost your Footloose tights ??? Dancing girl hey.
The commaradie of the Bold and Beautiful is great, but to be honest Ben and I are a little-but not much behind in our training, its waering a bit thin and we need a bit of a push. Bar family commitments and parking meters, we should always be pushed to do a little extra distance. From here on in you will be able to pick us by (no wetsuit of course) and the little navigation lights strapped to the back of our caps.At this point we dont need good luck wishes we need discipline- tyrants, dictactors, sadists and bullies welcome.

Beautiful swim this morning, although it was ‘Flipping Freezing’ well done to all the WWWs. I saw a beautiful big blue groper off the point, sadly, a rare sight these days lets hope those that are left make lots of babies to replace the stolen generation.
