Fun and shenanigans at Shelly beach with Lesbubbs photobombing my group shot! A great start to Autumn swimming today with… calmer seas, no stingers and some interesting marine life sightings. Around 250 of us and 5 newbies jumped in for some vitamin sea today!
Very busy in our little corner with Babewatch Booty Camping and record numbers for Jen’s yoga.
Captains Ian and John are happy they don’t have to give any safety announcements today and are also looking for volunteers to help sell raffle tickets for Royal Far West on Badge Day. (Please let them know if you can 🙂 )
Ian was also very proud of the new B&B noticeboard here on display.
It’s Martin’s birthday today so what better way to start it with a swim with Michelle before work.
Georgina and Fiona with Lips photobombing in background…
A more impressive ‘bomb’ here with Larry and friend!
At Shelly Beach I bump in to Emily bringing her daughter in for her first B&B swim at only 4 years old!
Lorrae and friend
Don’t blame you for the wetties today ladies, it did feel a bit chilly this morning.
Penny and Peter are back from Norway (and other places). Peter was swimming the triangle so here is Penny with Errol
Giant Cuttlefish are one of my favourite inhabitants of Cabbage Tree Bay and we see them in Autumn and Winter usually. This one was trying very hard to mingle in with seaweed but I managed to spot him and on diving down he looked a lot more orange. So happy they are back!
Love their ‘w’ shaped eyes and alien- like appearance!
Then I saw a very happy Cheryl. Cheryl by the way, is our long distance swimmer extraordinaire. She regularly clocks up 36 kms a week, often swimming 6km a day. She also loves the marine creatures. She was ecstatic because she’d seen a Cuttlefish, Eagle Ray and 3 Dusky Whalers!
Then she showed me a beautiful Wobbegong over the rocks. Water was a bit cloudy though…
Her Eagle Ray could well have been this one (last week)
and her Dusky may have looked like this. I snapped him a couple of weeks ago.
Kingfish chasing Yellowtail yesterday. (They were big!)
A Mum ‘Bullseye’ with her family of Bullseyes taken yesterday too.
There was an early report of a Turtle sighting but they could have confused it with this rare and strange creature also spotted yesterday in a school of Mados!

All 2018 summer badge qualifiers will be presented with their well earned badge(s), so whether you are getting one personally or you want to enjoy the celebrations of your fellow swimmers, a great morning is guaranteed so come along, soak up the atmosphere and get inspired for the upcoming winter badges…
Monthly Dinner – 13th March 2018 – Guest Speaker
The next B&B monthly dinner for the year will be held on Tuesday 13th March at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. The guest speaker on the night will be one of our swimmers, Sharnie Connell who is a marine science specialist. Sharni will present the case for establishing a Sydney Marine Park.
The Sydney region’s incredible coasts and ocean are at the heart of our enviable lifestyle. Our beaches, bays and waterways are truly iconic, and are renowned for their beauty both above and below the water, yet less than 1% of our waters are protected. A science based multi-use Marine Park for the Sydney region will secure a healthy blue backyard for our boating, swimming, surfing, and fishing lifestyle, and protect it from the pressure of coastal development and many other impacts. Sharnie, and many other environmental professionals, maintain that we need a Sydney Marine Park to protect our coastal lifestyle for generations to come. “We’ve got stunning terrestrial national parks around our harbour and coastline, but we have none in the sea. We have thriving marine parks to our north and south, but none around Sydney, where we need it most.”
The cost of the dinner is great value at only $25 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential: To avoid disappointment and secure your spot please book HERE.

Great blog Lainey! And for my benefit…the dusky shark can be identified by its sickle-shaped first dorsal and pectoral fins, with the former positioned over the rear tips of the latter.
I like the shot of LesBubs doing what she does best and Happy Birthday to Martin…
